Alaska Airlines to acquire Hawaiian Airlines

I transferred a mid six figure amount to Alaska.

Short hauls are a bit better. MEL-SYD J on QF is 15K on AS, which will be 19.3K on QF after the upcoming devaluation. The main benefit is free changes, so they serve as great placeholder flights (along with AA). You do lose the carrier booking charge if you cancel though, so change to a flight you'll actually take rather than cancel with AS.
Thank you --- I think you've further answered my question --- the short-haul savings aren't too significant, esp as we tend to travel Y domestically, and we tend to cancel rather than change reward flights as a general rule - it's a pity, as I was thinking it could be fun to have some AA points!
