A step in the right direction! :D

Indeed, a very small step in the right direction :) Now all they need to do is to add an even earlier morning train from Brisbane City (ie leaves around 5am) and another couple of later services (possibly 9pm / 10pm) to make me really happy. Any trip I can avoid a taxi to/from the Brisbane Airport is a good trip!

It is complex though for them to add new services as it involves negotiation with Queensland Rail and some other issues that need sorting out. Since their patronage has been increasing greatly over the last few years, they may have an incentive to do this.

Their cost (Currently $13/ticket, cheaper if you buy a book of 10 tickets or visit a ticket reseller) is still high, but for me compared to a cab for myself is around 1/3 of the price and about the same time.

Sounds good a later train for an extra couple of drinks in the QP, but more importantly at least if you finish work and catch the flight in the evening from Sydney you might still have a chance to catch the train.

Obviously there needs to be an exclusive train carriage for QP members only with free grog! Now that would elevate train usage over taxis!

.... and send them bankrupt :!:

Looks like I'll be using the airtrain on Monday afternoon, so will have to see what the service is like...(my first experience)

I caught the Airtrain from Robina (Gold Coast) to Brisbane Domestic on Sunday 1 February for $27.30 1 way Adult. Firstly - unlike NSW trains, it was ON TIME! It was also clean, graffiti free and comfortable for the 90 minute trip (so make sure you allow yourself lots of time to catch your plane..)

I can't recommend this service enough. It was my first trip with Airtrain and I have sent a Complimentary letter to the Operators of this service. It was also an Express service and we only made 6-7 stops at the max, so if you've got the time, take the Airtrain from the Gold coast to Brisbane - but allow yourself plenty of time. It's also good to sit and watch the countryside roll by while chilling out.

I can't recommend this service enough. It .

Yeah, yeah, yeah....how very lovely...give me a hankerchief to wipe the tears of unbridled joy from my ecstatic face...just don' try something mundane like a transit between the domestic and international terminals with your flight receipt/itinerary and no boarding pass

...what a bunch of losers...

I have been reasonably happy with the airtrain service since I have started working in Brisbane last July. I am leaning towards leaving on the last flight from SYD on a Sunday night to give me a few extra hours in Sydney and it would be nice to have an airtrain service at 9pm and 10pm. Otherwise I will have to use Coachtrans. No taxi for me if I can avoid it.

The cost went up to $14/ticket in the New Year and I am not sure how much the book of 10 is worth as I still have a few left from the ones I bought during the Amex promotion. Still very good value.

I believe they wouldn't be able to run much past 8:30 anyway as their original Environmental Impact study capped them at 9pm. Trying to hunt down a copy of that to find out more details (have only seen small references to it in various airport documentation).

I believe it's still $120 for 10 to Brisbane City. You can also normally buy single tickets for $12 (or maybe $13) at various backpacker places, information booths, hotels, some travel agencies etc [ie wherever travellers hang out]. If paying at the airport, a return is $26 ($23.60 if you pre-book online), and the return should be valid for at least several months (not that the expiry date of a prepaid coupon has ever been checked when I've used it).

Overall I find the Airtrain ok, but the hours limiting. The prices are a little high - but that's pretty standard for most privately run train services to airports...
