Airside Transfer at LAX - T5 to T3?

At LAX when arriving on a DL flight at T5 and connecting to VA out of T3, is there an airside transfer facility?

Last year year when I had to go from T5 to T3 I ended up having to catch the LAX terminal shuttle bus and of course go through security again at T3.

No airside transfer, you need to either use the shuttle or walk.

It's only a five minute walk, so good for a quick stretch of the legs.

The airside shuttle bus did resume service and now runs from Terminal 5 to Terminal 3 from 5pm from gate 52B in Terminal 5.

Expanding: it departs T5 every half hour on the half hour. Because it has to take a very long route (via the AA hangers well west of TBIT), the shuttle took about 15-20 minutes the one time I've taken it. So don't wait until the last minute; the shuttle avoids security and is more predictable than the T3 security queue but is not necessarily faster than walking.

Why wouldn't you just get the "A" shuttle that comes every 10 minutes and does the loop of terminals?

If you use that shuttle you have to go land side and then go through security again in T3. By using the DL/VA shuttle airside between T5 and T3 you do not have to go through security again (ie remain airside) which is a significant benefit. Also an interesting ride around the airport. I found it very effective.

I always enjoy a walk around the LAX terminals, last one was two weeks ago from the Radisson to TBIT and it only took me about 12 mins.

I enjoy the organised chaos that is LAX. :shock:

It really is a disgusting airport. I've been going into and out of that place for about 10 years and I'm sure the same buildings are under construction now as they where in 2003. I recall the first time I tried navigating the place I got incredibly lost.... once you know how to negotiate the chaos it isn't that bad. In fact I had a good chuckle at a couple of other Aussies last week who had obviously got off a Delta flight at T5 and where trying to figure out how to get to their LAX-SYD flight. Poor guys had no idea what terminal they where at, nor what terminal they needed to get too, nor how to get to whereever it was they didn't know they needed to get to. I did the right thing and helped them out, but it did make me recall my first time through....

Live been using it since 1991, even 4 times (2 return trips) with connections in the last month. Just read the signs, read your itinery and follow the terminal numbers, even the Yankees put them in the same order we do. The new TBIT gates are nearly ready and the current set up ready for the wrecking ball.

if you think it's 'really' disgusting then try some North African airports.
