AirNZ/Velocity Status

I'm flying with AirNZ in a few days and my Velocity status is currently under review. I will be dropping down to Silver (this flight will send me back up to Gold), but I'm not sure when it will actually kick back down to Silver (if at all).

My question is, do Air New Zealand have a way of checking what my status is, other than the Gold VFF card that I have? I'm debating whether to purchase an extra bag or not but I don't know if I will need it as Velocity Gold gets an additional bag - catch is that with my luck I will drop back to Silver on the morning of the flight and get slugged the last minute additional bag fee.

Anyone have any pointers for this sort of situation?

AirNZ seem to be pretty good system-wise with VFF status being recognised when you check-in, whatever that may be. Person wise might be a different story, particularly when the read on the system that you are a Silver or Gold.

I'm confused however, since you get the extra checked baggage as a Silver anyway, assuming you purchased a Seat+Bag fare (Without that, you got no bags reguardless of status, atleast on NZ Dom. flights) How many bags are you needing to check-in??

And as you might have noted on your card, your VFF Gold card technically expires after 13 months. Have no idea how exactly that works, I've only gone up that chain and not down (Yet)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, just stepped off a VA flight with Row 3 all to myself Bliss...

Unfortunately, 3 bags. Back in the day it would have been 2x32kg bags but since there is no sporting goods extra allowance nowadays it ends up being 3x23kg.
