Hi all - after flying almost every day for the past fortnight, I've come to realise just how much I love airline food.

Yes, you read that correctly. I love airline food!

Can only speak for QF in Australia, but I don't think I've had a meal or snack that I haven't enjoyed.

About the only thing that is getting a little tiring is the Cityflyer breakfast service - that's the one with cereal, Ski-brand yoghurt, a small (warm-ish) fruit bun, whipped butter, a Mutli-V juice and quite often a piece of fruit (banana, apple). As far as breakfast goes, it's great, but I find that it's just got way too much sugar for my liking (once you add yohurt, juice and fruit.)

On the rare occassions I make it to the pointy end, the J-class food is terrific. Enjoyed poached eggs, hash browns, churizos, asparagus and a small fruit salad the other day. Yum.

Standout snacks of late include olives, feta and crackers (on a short Syd-Cbr hop), mini Magnum ice-creams (somewhere up north) and the Carmens muesli bars.

Are there others like me, and if so, what are some of your faves (or not) at present?!

Can't remember ever having a mean on QF that was bad as such, sometimes i just choose nothing since i have eaten in the lounge :)

Tonkotsu rammen suop on JL F :)
CX F i had a really fantastic steak one day after the cavvier snack and some great prawn thing for entre.
QF J long haul i like the wines often, and the meals are nice but nothing stands out.
QF F long haul the fruit smoothies and breakfasts.
BA J long haul, Bacon rolls !!! tummy. And BA have my fav bubbles.
LH whY has nice sandwiches on there European flights, love German bread.
QF whY rissoles with potato and other veggies :)

For sure some meals on planes have been much better than i have eaten out at times. Sad really but thats the way it is sometimes.

I really like the Lamb Rogan Josh and the Kung Pao Chicken on QF.. thing I could never get is people who eat fish on a plane.

For the love of God, why? Haven't they seen any plane disaster movies? The sick people always have eaten the fish.

Evan, I think that's what got me started considering my original post! I recall hearing about a restaurant in Taiwan that only serves airline food (packaged and presented as if it was being served at 35,000ft) which was sourced fresh from the airport!

I don't know if I loved every meal but I do enjoy the meals. I agree that I haven't had a bad meal.

All meals that I have had in J & F have been winners. I have esp. enjoyed those but that could have been influenced by the over premium experience.

I used to be one of those people who got special meals ... non lactose (NLML)

I got sick of having the same food on every flight (Well almost, had a very small rotation) that now I gave up and eat the normal food.

Food in QF J was good from JFK-SYD :) well my first J food so I can't really compare!

So you'd pass on Cathay's First Class salmon and caviar service?

I think its only the fish in whY that makes you sick ;) I never eat the fish unless the other option is very un-appealing.

I hear LH have the best caviar, but LH F i not something i am going to be flying in the near future being committed generally to OW and not paying for F.
CX is pretty good thats for sure ! Well on the couple of F flight that i have been on with CX.

Try the Low Fat QF Breakfast, less sugar in the cereal brand, fruit salad instead of yoghurt and equal for your tea/coffee. My favourite!

INT meals seem to be pretty good most airlines, SAS has an outstanding ham & cheese wrap thingy that stays in my memory as well as a QF J steak (EX SIN) one flight also impressed...

I normally dont eat DOM Y meals however, I am partial to the chicken c wrap on DJ, especially washed down with a chardy or a crownie (served in the cans disguised as bottles)

The Pink cupcakes served by Q-Link on the BNE/ROK or BNE/MKY flights last year were devine - I must admit I did ask for seconds on more than one ocassion!

Mr!

:D

Well I have to say the rissoles weren't too bad at all. The Lamb Korma i had once was reasonable too..

I miss having the croissants with ham and cheese i got several times last year going to Syd. Much better than the cereal.. Fingers crossed I get it on Tuesday morning.. ;)

Having said that I'm a big fan of the QP Bircha Muesli. but lately I've gone the Fruit toast.

QF whY rissoles with potato and other veggies :)

My absolute favourite hot meal in Y also. Absolutely love them and have often had a second helping if there have been spares!

Just about to depart from Canberra Biz lounge, but a quick food update - 6.5/10. Would be higher, but I deducted points for the lack of cake. That's a very important consideration for a bike-riding ectomorph (with a Force 10 metabolism) like myself!

Dinner service tonight will be in Economy, but managed to upgrade to Biz for Adl-Per. Leaves at 7-something PM, so not sure if they'll be serving (late) dinner. We'll see.

I dont think i have ever been served something on a flight which i have not enjoyed.

Yes i would rate the food better than some restaurants i have been to.

I particularly enjoy the QF chicken cacciator, although i haven't had it in a while.

The one thing i dont particularly like getting is the cheese spread and byron bay biscuits. Not because i dont like it but there is lucky to be a mouthful of food.
The carmans food pack on the other hand is great.

Had the unfortunate (dis)pleasure of sampling the QF dom Y dinner service tonight from Syd... some spaghetti bolognaise concoction. Colourless, bland and tasteless, the meal had had any life frozen out of it. "Free" meal? I'd rather fork out the money to buy something I could actually eat.

JQ *Class SYD>KIX last year... towards the end of the flight they kept feeding me from a whole cheescake and a tray of mini Baileys.

Most of the food is OK, much better than LAN sandwiches (which is more like a dinner roll stuffed with lettuce, tomato and a slice of cheese)

Have had a bad experience with food being off and mouldy, QF seemed to ignore me, even the CSM didn't say much when I brought it to his attention. Still waiting to hear from someone at QF! thankfully it was not on my last J route!

Hi all,

Overall I would say QF food is great.

Syd-Mel a couple of weeks ago got a great steak sandwich in J, tender hot and with the right balance of meat/cheese and sauce.

Syd-Per early morning flights are a joy with breakfast, omeletes are great, poached eggs (although not soft) are good with muffins. If only they could get the toast hot and crunchy.:)

Only thing I can not understand is the dinner service on red eye's from Per-Syd it is 1am people go to sleep:!:
