With articles like the following coming out, it seems Airbus is slowly drip-feeding out news about a re-engine for the A320.
Stepping towards an engine upgrade, article quoting cost @ $1-1.5bn vs $10bn for whole new frame, with improved efficiency by 15%.
Airbus to unveil new version of best-selling A320
I suspect this leaves Boeing in a difficult situation as it'll be difficult to re-engine the 737 due to low ground clearance compromises, and to go "all new" now whilst still solving 787 and 748 issues will be difficult resounrces-wise, plus "all new" now might not be enough of a leap to protect against a future 320 that is "all new" in ~10yrs.
Will be interesting to see Boeing's response if Airbus formally announce a re-engine.
