Air Vietnam in emergency landing at Alice Springs after heroi_ condoms burst in woman's stomach

A WOMAN has suffered a drug overdose after heroi_ packed in condoms seeped into her stomach.
She is believed to have swallowed the drugs in Vietnam and caught a flight to Australia. Her husband is also suspected of smuggling heroi_ in his stomach.

The Sydney-bound plane was diverted to Alice Springs Airport early on Wednesday after the 45-year-old woman collapsed on board.

Unlike the QF A380 diversion to Fiji, in this case I would have no objection to an airline attempting to recover full costs of the diversion from the person concerned. (Not that there would be likely to be much to get from the "mule".)

Richard.

They need to heavily publicise cases like this in certain Asian countries where muleing is rife (and yes, I realise that quite a few Australians are involved too).

While it won't solve all of the issues (a lot of muleing comes from debts owed to others, blackmail, threats to family etc), it could help to persuade some people to not take the risk.

Lucky they landed in Aus and not Singapore/Indonesia. We tend to be more lenient on Drug Trafficers.

should have opened the front door at 35,000 and pushed both of them out...

No sympathy

Mr!

Australia is way too lenient. Drug trafficker, mule, drug dealer are all the same. And yes I know some people are forced into it but there are other ways than risk your own life and others....

Actually if they had let her traffick the stuff there would have been enough money to cover the diversion cost.

(joking there of course)

Drug importation laws et al. in Australia are only leanient relative to our asian neighbours. Conviction of drug importation or similar offences can lead to lenghty jail times, easily in excess of 15years.

Yes our laws appear leanient but that's because the recent media attention focus on the death penalty overseas where those criminals will be executed for having small amounts of prohibited substances.

Having said that, there are manycases in Australia where those drug couriers / importers are sentenced to very long periods of time but the truth is, those cases are never ever reported in widestream media and thus we aren't informed, aware of them, or don't know those harsh penalties exist.
