Hi there,

Have finally booked our flights for our big trip. Going with Air NZ.

We paid just over $4,000 each for our tickets - 3 of us going.

We fly Perth to Auckland - this flight is economy as no premium economy available.

Flight Auckland to LAX is premium economy yipppppee.

Our itinerary shows us as having only 1 checked in bag each on each leg.

The website shows premium economy allows for 2 checked in bags each.

I'm wondering, if it has picked up the economy leg and marked us out as being 1 bag each for this reason? Itin does show prem econ on the correct 2 legs.

Anyone had this happen? Will I be able to argue the point of being allowed 2 checked in bags each if this is not fixed on my itin paperwork. Given we paid extra for the perks we should get full use of those perks, for us it is the chairs/space, the extra bags and the fact we start our holiday with a bit of being spoiled.

My other query is - as premium economy passengers, will we get access to any of the lounges, or is that only for those in the frequent flyer programmes? We only have entry level (free) freq flyer for Qantas, Virgin and Alaska Airlines.

Has anyone flown on Air NZ prem economy since they removed a row of those seats? ( look like bucket tub chairs!)

I would certainly hope (and expect) the Y+ (Premium economy) baggage allowance would be applied to the entire trip... but if I were you I'd e-mail NZ (through the website contact) to try to get it "in writing"...

I did just that regarding baggage allowances for pending standby upgrades and got a prompt reply.... The upgrade cleared so it didn't matter... but I had that piece of paper saying the higher allowance would have applied regardless... quite comforting... Hopefully you'll get a similarly positive answer!

Sorry to say it's a "No" on the lounge access... That is restricted to Business class pax and Gold (or higher) on the FF program... At this point I would normally suggest you use the NZ forum here to see if anyone could guest you in... but with 3 people that becomes more difficult/unlikely....

If you are flying out of AKL on Nov 30, or out of LAX on Dec 4 I'll guest you all in...;)

You are having a long (long!) layover at AKL.. right? (5 am > 9 pm or similar?) For that length of time I would personally get way out of the airport! Perhaps even get a day room at a hotel to sleep off that flight from the West? I'd certainly do some sightseeing... (My favourite for AKL layovers is the Maritime Musuem downtown...) Bloody awkward flight timings from Perth!

Haven't flown in the new Y+... but have used points to upgrade friends into it (before the row removal) and they thought it was pretty flash compared to the usual seats/service... none of us are big or tall it must be noted...

Having said that a recent post on the Flyertalk website - from a chap who is 6' 1" - reported what he thought was a significant improvement with the new updated Y+.... from his description the leg room HAS improved.

Meals are better than normal Economy. NZ's IFE is very good in all cabins.... Cabin crew are usually very good.....

Hope it's a great trip!

Thanks Trooper

I will def talk with the airline/agent to get it in writing, i did talk with an airnz rep and she didnt know why it was showing with the 1 bag for each of us for each leg, and couldn't offer any solution as we used an. agent to do the booking. The agent is looking into it now for us.

We had thought of staying in a day room at nz and having a little sleep, then popping into the city before our flight out.

Going in April but thank u for the offer to guest us in - maybe next time!

You're more than welcome! Sounds like you are really looking forward to the trip!
