Contemplating using PNG Air in 2027 for a connection as they seem to have some extraordinary cheap fares occasionally from BNE to SIN.

Any experiences to relate from the community?

I flown CNS-POM on the little Fokker and then POM-BNE on their B767. Both flights were fine.

I don’t think I paid for a particularly expensive Y fare, but got free seat selection. The one to choose is the front row of Y because the leg room looks like this:

Flown PX many times in J & Y between POM and BNE/SIN/HKG/MNL (the below assumes you are interested in the Y experience).

The good:

  • Leg-room – both B767s have generous legroom, particularly in the front/exit rows.
  • Transit – transiting POM is simple and no visa is required.
  • Staff – very friendly and often quite chatty.
  • Loadings – can be very light, giving everyone plenty of space.
  • POM airport – surprisingly there are a couple of decent food options (Duffy’s is the stand-out).
The bad:

  • Food – average; eat before boarding.
  • IFE – very limited (15-20 films and 20-25 TV episodes) and on one of the B767s the moving map isn’t currently working.
  • Fellow passengers – as is often the case in the Pacific, aromas can be more pungent than the average Aussie is used to.
The seating layout is inconsistent between the two B767s – one has a layout where the first 4-5 rows of economy on the left are on one side of the aisle, and there is a business seat on the other side. After take-off, a curtain is drawn so it creates a mini cabin of 4-5 rows of 2 economy seats. Aircraft allocation changes frequently, so it is worth keeping an eye on seating choices prior to the flight.

Overall, if the price is right, there’s no reason to avoid PX, particularly as international punctuality has improved significantly over the last 12 months with the replacement B737 and new A220s.
