Air India leases 3x 77W from Singapore Airlines

Good news as I have (possibly foolishly) book an F award from YYZ-DEL-SIN using Lifemiles on AI for May next year.

Between the 6 ex-EY aircraft and 3 ex-SQ aircraft (alongside the 5 ex-DL 772s), it'll hopefully mean I won't be on AI's own (tired) 77Ws.

Definitely a carrier to watch in the coming years. Come back in 10 years they will be a completely different.

I think AI (which is merging with UK and in which SQ will acquire a significant stake) will lift its game.

After all, until Tata stopped running it, AI was reputedly quite good. Now, they're certainly making all the right noises about improving service standards and catering (although they have a few decades of bureaucratic mindsets to overcome), planning to gut their existing widebodies over the next couple of years and replace the interiors, and acquire a shedload of state of the art aircraft. And SQ won't put up with much cough (I suspect that's why Scoot's old chairman is now CEO).

But will they lift it by the time of my flight? Who knows? Fingers crossed... I shall report back in due course...

SQ group are acquiring 25% in the merged AI/UK, iirc. They are also partially funding the combined group's fleet replacement/expansion.
