Just heard on the radio that Air India currently dumping fuel over Melbourne. Expert flyer shows it circling Melbourne. Hope all is well.

Landed safe. No emergency called and was a tech fault according to 3AW.

Gotta wonder why dump over Port Phillip and not over Bass Strait if the problem was minor?

The pilots requested to return to the airport when the plane encountered a "minor technical issue" soon after departing, she said.

Sorry missed a word. But dumping fuel over Port Phillip and not over Bass Strait? Port Phillip is a more closed ecosystem then Bass Strait or an Open ocean.

The fuel vaporises anyway, it never reaches the surface.

Vaporising or not so as to not reach the surface initially surely the chemical elements within the fuel have to "come down" at some stage?
