re: Air Asia X Premium flatbed!

QF may take offence at another airlines product being called a skybed, then again so might the customers who have sat in it:

Thanks markis10

I have since edited my original post! Hopefully Qantas won't come after me for calling other airline porduct skybed by accident;)

On a serious note, i have been on a number of business class and couple times in first class on longhual int flights. The only truely comfy (fully lie-flat bed) and great service are Singapore airline (J) and China airline (F) however, we did pay a lot of money for it.
We travel in JQ's Starclass earlier this year from GC-TKO, it was good (for the price we paid), but it is no flatbed!

Cheers

After much trouble I have finally got the measaurements of the flat bed.
Reason:
I did try one for size after landing while exiting plane, and being 6'4" tall found while fully reclined that my feet were jammed up against the seat in front.
Air Asia has finally emailed the measurements, which is no where on their site that I could find.
Thank U Romeo.Their response Below:

Greetings from Air Asia X!
With regards to your enquiry, please be advised that Air Asia X Premium seat measurement is 20 inches wide, 60-inch pitch expanding to 77 inches in full recline position.
Should you require more information, feel free to call our call centre.
Thank you and have a good day.
Warm Regards,
Romeo

i have heard they are great, i havent tried them myself tho

I would suggest to save money, rather than booking flatbed at initial booking, just book a regular seat, cattle class, then later a company called optiontown.com will contact you asking if you want to upgrade to flatbed at a very heavily reduced price.
They also offer the 2 empty seats on either side of you as another option for about $10 per seat, giving you room to lay out in cattle class. These offers of course are only applicable if seats are available for that flight, which is not known till just before flying,so you do take the chance of missing out on the offer if flight is full.

I flew in one from KUL to TPE early this year. I am about 183cm tall so the seat was a good fit, but I could see if you were a bit taller it would be a tight fit. Was an optiontown upgrade from a normal seat I think it worked out to be $100 for the upgrade. Seat had no IFE, but had laptop power which was fine for me. For the meal I choose chicken rice which was pretty tasty.

thanks alot for that info, that will be a great help if we decide to book that in the future! :)

What is the success rate for the optiontown upgrades? Do they always try to fill the premium cabin or have they left seats go empty?

I just completed an AAX flight MEL > KUL > TSN and return CTU > KUL > MEL in Premium ... it was comfortable enough, I'm 190cm and when sitting in 1A/C and fully extended I had to have my feet flat up against the bulkhead to get a few hours shut eye.

On the return leg I was seated 2A/C and when fully extended my feet were tucked under the seat in front but the bed was then on a awkward angle (as if it didn't fully extend).

Given the price, I'd definitely fly them again but if you're expecting genuine business class etc... you'll be sadly disappointed.

I'm about 2/5 in getting upgrades, all refunds issued promptly (though I know others have had issues).

In my experience, they fill up the premium cabin.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm hoping to score an upgrade with them next month. I don't think I could bear it in economy when it's 9 across rather than 8 with no entertainment and limited recline of the seats.

Tried the Optiontown upgrade both ways Per-KL RTN with no luck. Would not do it again. Waste of money.

I think probably on Australian flights they are in a lot more demand. As they are some for Air Asia X longest flights and the passengers on average are probably better off financially.

On my flight from KUL-TPE it was about a third full up the front in premium and seemed quite full down the back.

I've booked premium next month from Mel to Kul return...pretty good price...read too many reports of Optiontown not working and didn't want to be cramped for 8 hours in a lesser seat than your average Y

A family member booked the flight. It was some kind of hell on KUL - BNE on Friday night, never again with Air Asia X, I got more sleep in the 2 hours on the BNE - TSV Qantas leg than I did in the 8 hours on Air Asia.
