Air Asia to Hobart?

There is demand for Bali in tassie. Can it support direct flights? Probably not. Will someone give it a go? Probably not.

Tassie is in such dire straits....they need to halve their public service firstly to have any chance in the next ten years.

Jeff Kennett needs to take over. Sorry Lara.

Sorry everyone for asking a question and then not sticking round!

As for "why" - you've probably seen the Lonely Planet news (I can't post links yet - search for "lonely planet hobart 2013")

But even before that news, I thought people knew that Tasmania was a very popular tourist destination, but for international visitors who have just spent 10+ hours getting to Australia, it is easier to do Sydney/Melbourne instead.

The comment about the business travellers is a good point, but that's why I'm suggesting AirAsia, as it targets the personal market and is priced accordingly.

As for Tassie being "mostly" retirees? Really? A slightly higher percentage than other states. We travel just as much - Melbourne-Hobart is the nations 10th busiest route, and it's not because we love Melbourne - it's because we mostly have to transfer through there to get to international destinations.

For the record since it was mentioned in this thread, Hobart currently has direct flights to Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
