Hi guys, just had a look at the Air Asia BIG SALE and did a dummy booking - Sydney>Chennai for Feb/Mar 2016 and the total was AUD$440. Is this legit or have I missed something?
I'd like to spend a week or so in Rishikesh around that time next year and if the price I got was correct then I think I should jump on it! Unfortunately it seems AAX don't have any FF partners where I could dump points into, none that I can see anyway.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Nice price at $440 for the bare bones package - and if you are keen, I would also enter the Optiontown upgrade lottery. Their business class are proper lay flat angled beds.

I'll check it out Alan, thanks.
As far as points are concerned my only option is to join their own program? I don't recall ever seeing their aircraft at Sydney airport so wondering whose metal I might be flying when departing Syd and what are the options pointswise.

they fly their own metal SYD-KUL - definetely worth investing in an upgrade or extra leg room seats as the configuration is pretty tight and uncomfortable

Booked!
AUD $580 SYD-MMA return for Feb/Mar 2016. Paid additional $69 for checked baggage and $40 for premium "seats".
Now to suss out how Optiontown works. Thanks guys :)

Have flown AirAsiaX out of SYD on near new B737-800. Booked nearly 10 months in advance, went into OptionTown close to 9.5months out and flight showed less than 10 seats sold of which we were 5.

There were 6 'premium' seats available for sale up until late the night before we flew and we did not get one upgrade. Money refunded back to CC as promised by T&Cs but very disappointing.

I found the seats no problem for me at 1.8m and 80ishkg, slept for a few hours to KL. Service on plane was great and friendly staff.

Enjoy your flight!

How long ago was this, as D7 operate the A333 do they not?

I thought D7 only operated A330s?

They have (had) a couple of A343's that they use to operate, but not sure about the 738's as that threw me a little.

I am sure RAM will qualify his post.

Sorry.

Mea culpa!

Thanks for picking up my lapse - relying on memory and not concentrating.

It was not a Boeing 737 single aisle but A330 twin aisle (and given I was in G on the aisle). So if bigger than 1.8 or 80ish kg - make sure you get aisle seat would be my suggestion.

Other comments hold true though, plane was immaculate, no signs of wear and tear.

Friendly crew who when hearing of longish layover for MH to LHR swapped some MYR for our kids AUD notes at a rate much better than was available at the airport (before any fees added by airport booths - I checked - it was a long layover).

We didn't order any food (as hoping for upgrade to come through, so took some 'health food' with us (= you feel happy while eating it)).

However several of the meals that people around me had ordered smelt good, looked good and when asked they said they were good. One was a curry dish and the other was a chicken. Curry smelt great.
