Age of infant when flying

I'm flying to Los Angeles in February, and my daughter turns 2 on Feb 2nd. If I fly there on Feb 1st, can I still pay for her as an infant (10% of adult ticket), or do I have to consider her a child (75% of adult fare)?

If you have a 1 way ticket then you'll be fine. Some airlines require a child ticket for the whole journey if the infant turns 2 half way through the travels. Your infant will not yet be 2 when the plane takes off (or indeed lands) if you are travelling to US direct from Australia.

It depends on the airline in question, contact the airline you're flying with, and ask, some will insist on having her ticketed the entire journey as a child, so will make you pay half infant, half child.

For domestic flight infant means they have to sit on your lap. Is this also the case for international?

If so and your going Y I'd advise paying for a child to at least have a seat.

I had a similar situation on a domestic QF. I only had to tell them the birthday at checkin and I just said it was "2 March" instead of "2 February". Just saves any arugments.

That trick won't work for an international flight. They'll have the child's passport in front of them, complete with genuine birth date.
