Aegean's Miles+Bonus program still has some valuable redemptions

I recently rediscovered the Aegean Airlines Miles+Bonus program when looking for a flight from El Salvador to Argentina. The cash airfares would have been $700+ but I discovered that I had a small amount of miles still sitting in my Aegean account. Rather than buying a ticket, I redeemed just 12,500 Aegean miles and €36.11 (around AUD59) for a flight with Avianca.

This trip covers a distance of more than 6,000km - but it's still all within Aegean's "South America" zone:

This is one of many examples of long intra-zone redemptions that are exceptionally good value when redeeming Aegean miles. In another example, you could fly from Seychelles to Cape Town in Ethiopian Airlines Business Class for just 21,000 Aegean miles + €55.27 (AUD91). Although this trip via Addis Ababa covers over 7,000km, it's all within the Central & South Africa zone.

The main catch is that you can only have up to one transit per one-way award ticket, so more complex routings cost more miles.

Aegean sells miles. You can also transfer them across from Marriott Bonvoy.

We've put together this guide which explains the basics of buying and redeeming Aegean miles:

Do they expire?
Got a MYK-ATH flight soon ( was not cheap)
Should I join Miles Plus and then either use them at some stage or transfer them to Singapore at a time I want to get a Singapore reward flight (knowing they will expire in Krisflyer)?

According to chapter 4 of the Miles+Bonus terms & conditions, "Award Miles do not expire."

I have seen some references to Aegean closing accounts that are inactive for more than 5 years, but I can't find any specific reference to this in the T&Cs.

FWIW I credited a bunch of flights to Aegean in 2014-15 and those miles were still in my account as of last week. I've just made sure that I maintain some activity (e.g. earning/redeeming small amounts of points) every few years and have had no issues.

Thank you for that

So theoretically you could fly PER-PPT in business class one way for 21000 miles if Air NZ would release award seats?
