I'm about to book some flights to Houston, via Honolulu for a week at the end of March. It's as cheap as going through LA - doing this with my frequent flyer points.

What do you guys recommend between Jetstar and Qantas flying there? I take it the flight from HNL to IAH will be AA which should be ok.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Can do an Expertflyer search request in return if needed! :)

I did this same trip, but from HNL to IND in December. I flew QF to HNL and JQ back in Y. QF was as expected, good enough, but I really liked the timing of the JQ flight coming back. I flew into HNL the late night before, stayed at the Airport hotel (poor, but a bed for 7 hours), then flew out of HNL around 8am, arriving around 4pm I think. I came back from this trip feeling much better than previous trips, the HNL-SYD leg was following the sun, so no sleep needed. I did nap a little, but it didn't bother me if I slept or not. I'll do it again...

A very good commentary on the JQ service I would have to say too, with a striking resemblance of my own flying experience 12 months ago.

JQ do fly the newer A330's to HNL, the Y service is basic as expected, but by no means " the end of the world".

I sat in Y on the night time flight over from SYD & surprise, Surprise did manage to get 40 winks, despite someone seated next to me. I had a window seat around row 40 I believe.

Seating is 2-4-2 from memory in Y on the A330.

Flew J , coming back, a step up from Y obviously, not exactly J you would expect from mainline QF, but similar to Domestic J , flying QF or PE flying internationally on QF.

Quite honestly, if one sets their expectations quite modestly on JQ, then you'll be fine.

I would fly with JQ again myself in an A330 or a Dreamliner without any reservations.

It may not be for everyone, but I don't consider myself too difficult to please either.
