any suggestions on the best way to get from Adelaide to Singapore

recently took Singapore Airlines, i think it is an a330 - pretty painful overnight.

I am guessing i'd have to go thru MEL to hopefully snag a different plane?

if you want to go direct, only SQ available and therefore only a330.
i've done the "better" plane routes via Syd and Mel and for me it wasn't worth the extra effort - transit, another flight etc. And this was flying J on 77W/A380. I've now just went back to "settling" for the A330 J.
if you are flying Y then even less reason to delay a 6hr 50min journey any longer than it needs to be, and there won't be any significant difference in Y between any of the carriers.

to be honest if you are talking economy class the A330 is about as good as it gets. Probably the widest seats, and legroom about the same as you'll get on any other type of aircraft.

Out of MEL/SYD you might get a choice of A380, 777, A330 or 787 to singapore depending on the airline. I can't think of any of those options that will be better than non-stop out of ADL.

If you want business class the A380 of Singapore 777 variants will be better - full flat beds.

I actually quite like the A330 - especially when travelling as a party of 2. I hear you though, IMHO overnight flights in Y aren't good on any airline. If I have to take an overnight flight, try to stick with the A330 so I don't have to worry about the third person sitting next to me. You can get day flights to Singapore out of Melbourne and Sydney, so maybe that might be a good option for you. I think you can even get a return 'day' option into both cities and Brisbane too.

Surely an A380 would be the best plane flying to Singapore? You'd have to pick it up from MEL (EK) or SYD (SQ) though.

(If you think the A330 is bad, how about flying QF via PER... you'll get a 737 the whole way!)

Untrue in SQ terms. It is the worst aircraft to fly in in economy on SQ, certainly seats are narrower than their 3 across 777's (which all SQ 777's are) and certainly inferior to the A380s. It is far from "as good as it gets". I travel on SQ Y at least one return trips a month, if not twice a month, and definitely prefer the other aircraft types, but yet to try A350 yet.

Would I add another 3-4 hours to my journey to avoid though? Definitely not. To travel during day time, irrespective of type of aircraft? Highly likely if not a huge cost impact. Coming ADL-SIN, the early flight (SQ 207) via MEL connecting through to ADL same day could be a reasonable consideration.

A330 is not a great choice for economy.

A330 feels claustrophobic. 23J does not even come close to 43H on the 747. And any bulkhead on A380 would be on par with 747. The rest of the seats on 747 and A380 would be ok if seat in front not reclined.

I have SQ A330 to/from BNE-SIN next week in economy somewhere way down the back and not looking forward to flights. Hoping I am tired and can sleep entire flight.

talking Y

appreciate the comments.. sounds like probably not worth going thru Mel

I flew Adl-Sin on the A330 2 months ago...having to go through 2 security checks in Adl was ridiculous, and the KrisFlyer lounge in Adl was an absolutely joke (in reference to food offerings). The J seat was not fully reclining either...OK for a day flight but not an overnight one.
