This year I paid our Amex Multi-Trip travel insurance premium using nab Velocity American Express card. The bank has charged me a "single currency" fee of 2.5%. The terms and conditions of the card say (quote)
[h=3]"NAB International Transaction Fee[/h] The following NAB International Transaction Fees apply to all credit card accounts, except NAB Visa One Fee-Free.
Single Currency Transaction: A transaction made in Australian dollars with an internationally-designated merchant."

I have called American Express Travel Insurance and they are going to seek an explanation from the bank about this fee.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Common problem with some of the big banks and international merchants. They're just trying to take even more money from you, for no good reason. Switch to a better bank/CC- Citi, Amex, ANZ (from memory), GE and HSBC don't do this to you. There's a bigger list on another thread about it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
