I've booked a domestic Red E-Deal fare and I contacted Qantas (online live chat) to see if I could add an additional one way international flight to it and I was told that Red E-Deal fares prevent any additional changes or flights added to the PNR?

I thought this was strange and clarified that I'm not looking to change the existing flight, but rather add on another flight the day after the current one and she insisted that this isn't possible at all, even with a fee.

I've since checked fair conditions and I don't see any mention of this. What's going on?

What benefit would you expect to receive from having the flight added to the existing PNR?

Also, all flights on the PNR have the same restrictions as the lowest fare class of all flights on that PNR. You may be unnecessarily restricting your international fare for no benefit.

If the international QF flight was the same day then even on a separate booking you could still be through checked to your final destination. As it's the day after your domestic flight then I don't see any benefit of having both flights in the same pnr.

One option would be to have the domestic red-e-deal ticket reissued altogether to become part payment of the new routing that would now include both flights but that would attract re-issue fees that would probably be significantly more than purchasing a separate international sector.

Another option would be to put the red-e-deal into a credit shell to use at a future time then just use the multi-city booking tool and make a totally new booking to include both of the flights you now want on the same ticket/pnr.
