I am flying back from LAX-AKL-PER later this month. I am flying J with Air New Zealand so am entitled to 3 checked bags. I will be checking in 1 bag through to PER in LAX. However, I would like to also bring back something from AKL. I have a 8 hour transit and want to know if I can check in another piece of luggage in AKL after I have technically already checked in at LAX. I was planning on clearing customs and immigration so will be land side in AKL during the transit anyway. Anyone tried this with ANZ before? Is it even possible? Cheers.

I have done this with SQ coming back through Singapore to Brisbane ie originating flights Zurich. Spent the day in Singapore and added my shopping so that I didn't have to carry it.

The issue that airlines will not allow is the opposite ie checking bags LAX-PER and 'you' leaving the flight in AKL.

Should not be an issue as long as you are within your luggage allowance.

I have also done this with BA during a stopover in Heathrow and had no problems.

I often do this, sometimes in the transit leg when the airports would not sell you duty free. I would buy what I need, go through customs then check the baggage through. A pain sometimes but I also tee it up with a great seafood laksa when I'm passing though KUL
