This apart hotel was discussed in the 'have you made any travel mistakes lately' thread and a post by Milboo. Here is what we found on our recent stay.

After, much deliberation and taking into consideration Milboo's post, we decided to brave the Adagio Access Paris Bastille. We spent 28 Dec till 1st Jan there. Our first impression wasn't great as it still had the Le 300 signage outside and only Adagio Access signs in the windows at the front. The lady who checked us in looked a bit dishevelled but was friendly enough. I had booked a best available rate and the full charge was done on check in - they still only accept Visa/MC despite what it says on the Adagio website.

Our room on the 4th floor was 'compact' but clean albeit the bathroom could do with a regrout/refurb. Still had blankets which we don't find particularly hygienic and the sheets were ok but thin, as were the towels, and the bed was firm. However, we loved that we had a table with chairs plus a desk and windows that opened. As tea drinkers, my partner was not impressed that there was no kettle only the drip filter coffee machine, we did ask at reception but they couldn't provide a kettle so we just used a saucepan to boil water. The electric blue/lime green/burnt orange colour combination in the room was a bit out there but tolerable. WiFi access was free - we had to log into web mail to access our emails and we couldn't send emails with photos - no big drama for us as we don't use social media etc. If you wanted full internet access, there was a charge.

On first view my partner hated it. I offered to move us the next day if she still hated it the next morning. The blanket/sheet combo was annoying, but despite this we slept so well and the building and street was so quiet that my partner agreed to stick it out. I asked for another sheet and blanket and manufactured two 'doonas' which served us very well for the rest of the stay - we left them in situ on checkout hoping they might get the idea to provide doonas.

It seemed that they had only one iron and board which had to be collected from the reception, and valuables were kept in the hotel safe - no in room safe.

The other staff we came across were immaculately dressed and pleasant - they even had a printed sheet prepared for NYE advising of until what time each Metro line was running.

It was a short walk (5mins) from the Gare De Lyon - we caught the Le Cars Air France bus from CDG - and the property is right near the Promenade du Plantee from which the New York Highline was inspired. The Bastille was a 10 min walk max and there was a great Carrefour supermarket just around the corner and a Boulangerie at the end of the street.

We felt completely safe in the area and in the street even though it would be described as dimly lit. The door to the building was accessed by a code and the reception was manned 24 hours. We self catered breakfast but didn't use the two burner cooktop other than to boil water. Interestingly the cooktop operated on a timer - a fire prevention strategy I guess.

I would stay at the property again simply for the location and the quietness of the area. We paid AUD $165 per night ($140 if I had chosen to prepay) which I thought was excellent value for a short stay. I have provided feedback to both Accor and the property and would hope that some simple changes like providing doonas will be made.

Interesting to see not much has changed at all in 7 months! Well except the wifi point.

We had the same issue with asking for a kettle too!

Your room configuration is a lot better than the room I had - mine was a short corridor in with sink and closet and then one big room with the table at the end of the bed and under the TV.

I dealt with Accor locally over the complaint I made (hotel manager basically said too bad - and I found out she was completely responsible for the website so had lied to us) and they were fantastic about resolving it.

Thanks for the review, it may help us in the future. Just a question re the blanket hygiene, I don't think anyone is really privy to how often blankets are cleaned?

I wrote to Accor just after our posts way back when about the false advertising as I had read negative reviews elsewhere. While I received a quick response from them, there was no real substance to their response. I suspect that the woman who checked us in (fuller figured blonde) was the manager, although my first impression was that she was the cleaner. When we did actually see the cleaner, she was immaculately dressed.

I agree, that is our concern. As Milboo pointed out, the linen was old and thin and the blankets were a kind of thin fleece type. There was also a bed spread that never saw the light of day again once we took it off the bed.

Hi Bazzi. We stayed in Paris 18 months ago (this may be slightly off topic) and booked our accom through a local Aussie website(we are in Melb) called myparisapartment.,com. Absolutely brilliant, so much better to have a bit of room where you could make a cuppa (unlike you, we had an electric jug!) Our mistake was that there were two bars -one in our little street and the other in the next so were kept awake by yahoohing youths - or whatever the Parisian equivalent, which we were really irritated by. Until 7am. Urinating and vomiting -yeech. But no matter how much research you do you can't see that one in advance!. We've been caught elsewhere by really cough hotels which look good in pics and turn out to be shockers. The thing we have learnt is you have to be such pains in the a### that they give in, in order to shut you up! If no joy, the alternative is to just move and stuff the $$ it costs you, as it is not worth being miserable for the period of your stay to put up with grot. My 2c worth!

We have used rentparis.com for our previous apartment stays in Paris - fantastic guys to deal with - but we are usually in Paris for 1 - 2 weeks. This stay was only for 4 nights and, as we had a late arrival and early departure from Paris, we thought a hotel would more convenient. Being an Accor Le Club member is how I found the Adagio. I'd certainly try the brand again and I think we got very good value for our money all things considered as I think our rate was at the high end of their average.

One thing that did influence our decision to stay there was that it was 100% non smoking - not easy to find in Paris - however we did notice a few of the guests puffing away outside the building. Why do smokers check into non smoking accommodation? Perhaps that is a whole other thread and maybe some puffers could answer that question.

incidentally, we tried some years ago to use myparisapartment but couldn't get them to respond either via email or phone after several attempts.
