Account flagged for fraud, help!

I recently opened a Velocity account to transfer Accor points to book a united flight EWR to GOH. The flight has been ticketed, but I just received an email saying my account has been suspended. I opened the account in my name, but I am American and had to put “Australia” as the country, but terms don’t say we can’t sign up. The flight is Tuesday (EST) and i have accommodation booked. Are they going to cancel my award flight on United? Should i call? In the past the Filipino team has been very unhelpful. I’m very worried and this is for my dream trip to Greenland! Tips?

You can call United, or use UA’s manage booking function to see if they have a ticket number against the booking.

However, if VA suspects fraud they can cancel the ticket anytime, right up until you’ve checked in. Potentially even after.

The type of activity you describe is likely to have set off a fraud alert: new account, no flights taken or credited, miles transferred in, redemption made.

The velocity terms and conditions are very clear… you must live in one of the countries specified. Amercia is not one of those:

You’re eligible to become a member of the Velocity program if you:

  • live in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Christmas Island or Cocos (Keeling) Islands (and, upon our request, can demonstrate to our reasonable satisfaction that you live in any of these countries)

The ticket is active in my United app and I have a ticket email from Velocity. The question is, what is the chances they will cancel it? I need to figure it out since I have accommodation booked in Greenland.

It’s hard to say. It’s not uncommon, when accounts are flagged for fraud, that any active tickets are also suspended.

You might want to have a read through this thread to see if there’s anything helpful:

The problem is, if you call, your ineligibility to join may be discovered which may trigger a cancellation of the ticket for sure.

I’m definitely not going to call. Maybe I’ll get lucky since my flight is Tuesday and it’s Friday in Australia? But then again, they have the rest of today and Monday and Tuesday to cancel it, and if they don’t, they could cancel my return flight. Ugh.

There some pretty reasonable advice on reddit! And whirlpool too (not on this issue, but general threads relating to travel, visas, points and insurance etc).
