Account expired due to inactivity - but can't re-enrol with same email address?

Looking at booking some hotels for a US trip but when I tried to log in to my Gold Passport account, it gave an error message, so I contacted Hyatt and they advised the account had expired due to inactivity (didn't have any points in it anyway, so no problem there LOL). They told me it can't be reactivated so have suggested I enrol again as a new member, which I'm quite happy to do, but the enrolment keeps being rejected as it says the email address is already in use! I've sent a query off to them, but while I'm waiting for a reply, I just thought I'd check whether anyone here has come across this before - is it just a glitch in the system or do you have to use a new email address if enrolling again? Thanks.

I would have called again rather than sending a query. ( or check FT ... maybe there'll be a clue there ).

Sorry serfty, should have mentioned I didn't call them initially, I emailed and received a reply back within a couple of hours, so I replied to that email when i had problems. I've now received another reply and they've manually re-enrolled me on the system with a new membership number and I've been able to log in and activate my online access, so fingers crossed it will work now!
