Hi there

I’m booking some travel (yes!) and wanted to get some opinions on accomodation in these locations (flying in from MEL).

- Coffs Harbour
- Newcastle
- Merimbula (think we are sorted here but any late suggestions welcome!)

We are looking for:

- 1 bedroom suite / apartment accomodation
- Premium (doesn’t have to be luxury but has to be nice )
- Car parking
- Hotel preferred to AirBnb but not deal breaker
- (Nov/Dec timing)

I’m pretty good with accomodation normally in the bigger cities but I know some local gems are harder to find in regional towns!

Thanks for your help!!

For Newcastle are you looking at the Newcastle CBD or Port Stephens or Hunter Valley Vineyards or Lake Macquarie?

Your answer will help me guide you with some recommendations

Assume you will be hiring a car in Coffs if you are looking for car parking. A lot of the options are older buildings of "country" standard. If you are looking for premium I would be inclined to look more towards apartment options (Airbnb) around the Jetty area or well away from the highway. The places to the north (Sapphire & Moonee) would be ok but you spend more time driving around.
Sealy Lookout is a good drive to give you great views on a fine day

Thank you for replying!

Honestly we are flexible, we would be flying into Newcastle and getting a car so happy to base ourselves wherever. Will only be there for 2-3 nights maximum. Have never been to this area before!

TBH when you land I would recommend spending a night or two in the Newcastle CBD and then spending the other nights either in Port Stephens or the Hunter Valley vineyards

Neither are far from NTL

For Newcastle CBD
- the Kingsley which is Newcastle's first and only 5 star hotel just opened and is getting great reviews. I am having a staycation there myself next weekend so can let you know more

If you are looking for serviced apartments I would recommend Crown on Darby Crown on Darby - Book Direct and Save 10% or Quest Newcastle West Newcastle West Serviced Apartments | Newcastle West Accommodation | Quest Newcastle West Apartment Hotel

For Port Stephens, i would recommend staying in Shoal Bay at the Shoal Bay Country Club Ramada Resort Shoal Bay Accomodation - Shoal Bay Country Club
Do a whale watching tour but my favourite is taking a half day trip over to Tea Gardens on the old ferry TEA GARDENS FERRY - departs Nelson Bay daily - Port Stephens NSW | Ferry cruises between Nelson Bay to Tea Gardens, 7 days a week and have lunch at the pub Tea Gardens Hotel -Myall River

In the Hunter Valley Vineyards if you are after self-serviced apartments try the Grand Mercure Apartments at The Vintage Home or The Oaks at Cypress Lake Oaks Cypress Lakes | Hunter Valley Resort

I can give some restaurant and sightseeing recommendations once you know your itinerary a bit better

Thank you for taking the time to write this, super helpful. I’ll go away and do some homework!

When are you heading to Coffs and how long are you intending to stay? As we live in Coffs we may be able to provide some local knowledge/suggestions.

Esteemed AFF review of the Kingsley in Newcastle

Second the Kingsley
Best thing to happen to the Newie hotel scene in years.

Do they have suites / did you stay in one?

Slightly OT - the QFLink Mel NTL service is very popular it’s booked out some days I’m looking!

If we go - late Nov / early Dec!

Check my review. Someone has linked it above. Yes they do have a small number of suites. I stayed in the best one.

Honeysuckle Executive Apartments or the Chifey. (Same building)

Great location and much nicer than the Quest.
