AAMI Travel Insurance - anyone with claim experience?

Does anyone have experience with an AAMI travel insurance claim? I've been looking for a policy to cover us for about 3 months when driving through the US before starting work in Canada (healthcare covered once in Canada), and I like the look of the AAMI policy.

Any experience with AAMI for either travel claims or general claims is appreciated.

I had a AAMI claim a couple of years ago when my luggage didn't make my connections from BNE through to TLL. AAMI were really good and I couldn't fault them on the claims process. My luggage turned up (via London) a few days later but I had gone to town updating my wardrobe. I let them know the details via email and they communicated the limits I had to work to. I was in Europe for 6 weeks and it was only when I got home I followed things up with receipts (in Estonian) for them to process.
I guess the thing I still can't understand regarding the excess, is due to the price of it, I ensured I spent well to ensure bang for buck. If the excess was lower I wouldn't have spent as much. I was flying business on one world and had to provide AAMI a letter from Finnair saying they hadn't paid me.
