AMR Corporation Announces Intent to Move Forward With the Divestiture of American Eagle - Jul 20, 2011

Fort Worth, Texas, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, Inc., announced today its intent to move forward with the divestiture of AMR Eagle Holding Corporation ("Eagle"). AMR currently expects the divestiture to take the form of a spin-off of Eagle stock to the shareholders of AMR.

Interesting move though has been flagged for some time.Wonder what effects it might have on OW.Should only be minor but who knows.

Drron they gave me the worst flight all year. Don't be sad saying goodbye.

While they may sell it off, that does not mean AA Eagle will not continue to operate their regional sectors for them. Plenty of other US-based airlines have their regional services operated by other companies but using their colours, logos, flight numbers etc.

And not just in the US, look at the Virgin Aust/Skywest alliance.

Presumably it will be sold with a contract to operate services (to at least) the current levels, for a specified period of time to come.

What the sale will allow it to do, however, is bid to operate new services for other airlines (or possibly in its own right). I doubt that it will be profitable without significant change to its business model, which is simply not possible under AA's current ownership (mostly due to restrictions imposed on it by AA mainline pilots' contracts).

Also, QANTASlink. It's a pretty common arrangement the world over.

hmm I hope they still operate for AA... I need them to get to Cincinatti =/
