Am a WP flying discount Y SYD-LAX-MEX on Dec 1st and MEX-LAX-SYD on Dec 9th. We've had to do 2 seperate tickets - one for SYD-LAX return and the other for the AA sectors LAX-MEX return.

Just found out (dumb cough) that AA sectors actually operated by AS. I knew enough to make sure that the AA sectors booked into L and not Q (and thereby earn points) but now I'm a bit confused

So questions.

1) Baggage interlining - I presume no problem there since QF partners with both. Are there likely to be any extra baggage charges - probably have about 20kg checked through hopefully

2) Lounge access at LAX and MEX. I presume that since my departing flights both have AA flight numbers I should be able to access AA lounges with my WP card. Is this correct?

3) SC/points earn on AA flight numbers when operated by AS metal. Qantas website seemed a bit vague on this especially under the Alsakan section. Any ideas? Would I be better crediting these sectors to my rarely used AA card or my AsiaMiles card, or am I SOOL

Simon

Your AS BP's will have the actual AS flight number on them.

Note that if you call AS in Oz they should give you your AS booking reference. You should be able to use this to select seats on www.alaskaair.com.

1) You need to collect and re-check your bags each way in LAX in any case.

2) AS departs from T3 at LAX so you won't have access to AA lounges. You might have access to the AS boardroom at T3 but don't count on it. There are some with more experience of this than I.

3) Yes! Anecdotes indicate AA flight numbers on AS metal do credit as per AA metal.

Is there any arrival lounge access at LAX then? Anyone know about lounge access at MEX for departure?

Thanks for the info so far

Is there any way at all to avoid going through immigration at LAX. I don't want to go into their stupid country at all - just want to transit to another plane. This is one of the reasons I have been avoiding that part of the world

None on the itinerary you are flying. There is no concept of "transit" for immigration purposes. The only way would be to re-route via South America or Canada.(Note that as you will be flying over American soil, you would still need to "cleared" by the American Government - but no immigration hassles).

I have done (QF) SYD-LAX; (AS) LAX-SEA as split bookings on same day - QF at SYD issued both BP's - collect/rechecked bags before leaving TB terminal & walked to T3 - entry to Alaska lounge OK by showing BP & QP card - lounge very average but quiet.
