Hi all!

I am just about to fly LAX-MEL tonight - currently sitting in the new OW lounge in the TBIT terminal at LAX...it is very nice! So I thought I'd give a bit of a report on a quick MR I did in the last week.

I had a few days to spend in Denver this week so I decided to do a MR from DEN-DFW-ATL-ORD-DEN. This whole trip scored me 360SC's (AUD $790), adding my LAX-DEN flight would give me the magic total of 1400SCs, giving me WP status and access to the F lounge in LAX.

The MR trip was great, it was good to see a few of these LOTFAP cities I have never seen before (even if it was only the airport!). The approach to ORD was fantastic - the pilot flew right along the edge of the water, giving great views of the city. Seeing these cities blanketed in snow (DEN and ORD) was quite magical.

I was quite impressed by the AC clubs in each of these location (especially LAX). For those who do not know, AC have recently enabled free Wifi access in pretty much all their clubs. Unfortunately, this is only for AC members/daypass only, not OW Sapphire/Emerald. A bit dissapointing! I had to resort to using the in-house PC's, which for some funny reason were blocking access to facebook :)

Including my LAX-DEN flight, this was all meant to get me 1400SCs which would get my into the LAX F lounge. A spanner was thrown into the works when I realised my LAX-DEN flight was Booking class Q - which does not earn SC's, leaving me 15 short. So unfortunately now I am 'slumming' it in the J lounge.

Also quite impressive was that my LAX-MEL business upgrade came through today. The flight was showing no availability in any class for the last week. Being so close to Christmas i was not surprised, but I got lucky anyway. My first international J experience - I can hardly wait!

Anyway I'll leave it there!

Cheers,

Josh

Congratulations (on the upgrade and the impending Platinum FF status) and enjoy the flight to MEL.

Enjoy ...

It's 'Upgrade Season'! The proportion of PAX travelling in WHY compared to the premium cabins increases greatly this time of year.

It's quite likely that Qantas were overbooked an WHY and had been planning to move PAX forward - those with point upgrade requests getting priority.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well let's just hope enough of them get bumped up to J, forcing me out of my J seat and into an F seat LAX-SYD tomorrow night. ;)

Congrats on the J upgrade and pending WP status Josh. I made WP a few weeks ago, it's a great feeling. :)

Congratulations Josh and glad to hear that everything went OK with your mileage run.

Thanks for the TR Josh. Congrats on completing a MR, you know you're a keen FFer then. ;) :D

Congrats on the Platinum status too.....

May 2008 be bigger and better.

Could you please help me understand Josh, your SC's of 360 for $790? Was it with AA challenge and in first or thru QF. Logic tells me it wouldn't be in discount economy thru QF booking with AA. I may return to states late '08 and I'd be interested in doing a milage run like the above for that money and SC's..

Thanks, trish

It is a YUP/KUP booking through AA which books into F class and receives the appropriate F class SCs through QF.

There are a few threads on AFF which explain the process involved in booking one of these mileage runs.

Here are some threads SC earn on AA YUP fares, YUP/P fares on AA to get you started.

Josh, would like to hear about your flights and timings to see how such a MR would actually work. Many thanks.

Michael (and others),

My itinerary for the day was:
DEN-DFW 07:05-10:05
DFW-ATL 11:00-14:05
ATL-ORD 15:05-16:10
ORD-DEN 18:45-20:25

As you can see, some of the connections were a bit tight, and it didn't leave much room in case a flight was delayed.
I was mostly concerned about the DFW connection, as I had to change from terminal D to terminal A.
But as it turned out, I had plenty of time spare for all the connections, giving me ample time to check out the Admirals Clubs at each of the airports (ORD AC on concourse K is fantastic).

Cheers,

Josh
