Just looking at multi trip fares on the AA website, the fare base is F/26 for all the flights but one of the flights is on a E140 jet wich is a single class aircraft. Would F status credits stil be earnt even though the travel would be in Y?

No. If you fly on an aeroplane which only has economy class you will earn status credits as per economy class; if booked in Y , then will earn Full Economy SCs, otherwise will earn Discount Economy SCs

Before booking you will be easily able to ascertain the exact fare class, even the specific fare rules. (Unlike Qantas :-|)

In the case of F26 fares it is normally Y (i.e. Full Economy), but I have seen discount fare classes such as S, N and Q before.

In any case, as Dave posted you should earn as for the fare booked for that sector, so Y would earn as for Economy, any other economy fare class will earn as for Discount Economy (½ that of Y).
