Just updating my product knowledge on the AA inventory and offerings. Will be crisscrossing LOTFAB shortly, maybe a quick few days in the Caribbean, (Aruba?)

While it will be a status run for PG, want it to be as enjoyable as possible.

Best equipment, seating and transfers?

Look forward to hearing your latest experiences.

I always look for 777 or 767 operated flights wherever possible. Apart from those types, the rest of the fleet (757, 738, MD80) are pretty much of a muchness when it comes to seat comfort especially in J/F.

Did 2x trans-con in 767 F. Lie almost flat bed, they give out personal TV screens with Bose QC 15 headphones. Different experience on 2 short hops in 757, large leather recliners, v old and tired interior. IMHO OK for a short flight but wouldn't advise anything longer, only have a leg room shot of the latter:

Ah yes, the 757 slAAveships. Avoid where possible. I think I've heard of people getting international config 757s which are much nicer, but not something that could be relied upon.

737s are much like QF 737s. MD80s are nice and quiet up front. 767s are nice (if you're going to go via ORD, you should be able to get at least one leg on a 763 I think?) and 777s are the best but good luck finding one on a domestic/Caribbean leg.

Can only add that the AA 757 (domestic F, DFW-ANC-DFW) is the only plane seat that has given me a sore butt!

If you are after the 777 look at the Trans Continental routes, or JFK-MIA (which would tie in with a getaway to the Caribbean).

Last year did a MR on AA F.
ORD-SFO on 767, seats angled flat very similar to J class on LHR-LAX, very nice for Dom leg.

Then did SFO-DFW on 757, avoid at all cost! Very uncomfy seat, minimal leg room.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

767 sounds better than what we have! Thnxs for that Princess.

For those looking to travel F on 777 / 762 transcons, Just be aware that YUP type fares do not apply to three class services (You'll travel Business).

Had a YUP on the 777 JFK-MIA, and it is a 3 class service sold as 2 class so can still pick up F seats.
There is a thread somewhere over at FT on this.

Although I haven't done a YUPP or KUPP I've done a bit of research so it's only a matter of time.

I did notice that there's an AA 767 flight SDQ/JFK (not sure if ops as 2 or 3 class - I just can't remember why I was going to Santo Domingo! I may have been looking at a separate ticket (escape route) ex PAP which while quite an economical route ex HNL on a KUPP, I wouldn't say getting cholera is on my bucket list.

An AA 767 operates non-stop DFW/HNL & DFW/OGG (Kahului Apt, Maui) but KUPPs is all about getting in the maximum amount of flights going via places not avoiding them.

Yes quite so. I am constructing my spreadsheets to tally up the SC's given all the permutations you find if you list 50 plus connections for any one sector. Price it up and then decide from there.

The 767 and 777 seem to be to be their best equipment, so if you need to be upfront it does needvto be pleasurable.

Hope to have my little project complete in a month or so.

It's easy enough to tell if there is a three class flight using E/F as it would have each of FAP, JDCI & YBH... classes showing. [EDIT] (well Duh!) [/EDIT]

Y/KUPPS on 3 class flights generally book into I or D classes.

The only B767 services in three class are those operated by 762 aircraft (transcon LAX and SFO to JFK and v.v.).

B777 services internally are operated as two class - I think there is one service that operates LAX-MIA. DFW-ORD I think is being discontinued. But for a YUP/KUP you get the nice first class 'suite'.

Flying via JFK to the carribean will likely give more SCs based on distance, even though, IIRC, the exJFK flight will likely be in business (as the higest cabin available). I looked at some YUPPs to SJU and it gave more SCs to route LAX-JFK-SJU than LAX-MIA-SJU (with both last flights ex USA to SJU in J)

As for other aircraft - 757 (agree- avoid) but for MD-80s, the seats on the left side have 2-3 inches less pitch than those on the right. Seatguru is pretty good for US based carriers.

Check for -BOS-MIA-SJU routes ;)

(Also, there is often one of the refitted 752s with NGBC between BOS and MIA, these are characterised with only 4 rows in "First Class")

Last year I did a domestic MIA-LAX on a 777. Seat in J was good, entertainment good. The aircraft had come in from a caribbean port (can't remember which one!)

Try to avoid the MD80s. They don't have IFE. I'm doing a flight soon between New York and Dallas (to link up with the new QF service ex DFW) and have been lucky to find a 738 operating between LGA and DFW. It's the only service from LGA that is not an MD80. Believe similar situation applies at JFK.
