I've been trying to understand all postings re. aa and buying instant upgrade ticket, but I'm still very confused.

I have a two part question.

a). I am planning on purchasing the type of ticket thru. the oneworld aa site for upcoming trip in states. I'm looking at purchasing for only 2 class flt.

When I read the class fare, the first letter indicates it is economy but letters following indicate first.

My question is if i purchase this kind of ticket and in a 2 class flt., will it be ticketed in first?

b). When I look at price of first class ticket on the oneworld site and compare with the american site, taking into account the exchange rate, why is the fare so much more expensive on the oneworld site?

Thank you trying to explain this to me.

Is the fare basis something of the format of KUPP or YUPP ?

If it is of expression K.*UP.* or Y.*UP.* , then it will book into A or P class and so will be in 1st .

If concerned, make a booking and select seats; if you can select seats from the 1st class cabin then you are fine. also it will show you what booking class your seats are in and should show A or P

When looking on aa.com use the price and schedule function. These fares are in the Instant upgrade column and usually book into P class. They are usually cheaper than full fare Y.
Check the fares also on AA's Australian site. The actual fare often is cheaper in $A than if you book on the US site but taxes I have found often more.Usually therefore about the same in total but at least you know what$A you are up for.

And the AA.com.au site usually doesn't have the wide range of choices for flights that the AA.com site does. More Instant Upgrade fares on AA.com.
