Now it was off to Geraldton. Now we knew of the forecast of cyclones coming down the coast but it took us a while to twig to the fact that all the caravans and campervans were actually fleeing from it.A nice easy run.We had booked the Mantra on an owners rate for 1 night. We got upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment with views.

We had dinner at Skeetas which is in the Mantra building. Was alright.Mrsdrron had squid and a side of sweet potato wedges and I had the fish coconut curry.

Then she had lemon curd with an almond crumble but I have no idea what I had.

Ok but I hope they aren't right claiming to be the best restaurant in Geraldton.

Saturday morning was a nice day.but at about 0900 we got a ring from our accommadation at Kalbarri informing us that they were cancelling our reservation as they had been told by Emergency not to have any guests over the weekend.A bit upsetting at the time but in subsequent photos we saw from Kalbarri it looked like the resort had suffered significant damage so we ended up being glad that we didn't get there.
But now we realised we would have to spend at least the next 2 nights in Geraldton.Fortunately the Mantra was able to put us up for another 2 nights and then they were full.We had to move to the low rise block but it was empty so we could move everything straight over.A ground floor unit and facing inland.I figured that would be better than a sea fronting 4th floor unit we were in for the first night if the cyclone was severe.

So to the new room.Obviously an older building.

When we arrived in Geraldton the first thing we did was drop in at the office of the Eco-Abrolhos to let them know we made it to WA and to check it would still be sailing. They said it would be but the cruise before had been cancelled so the ship was still in port.
So after moving rooms the first thing we did was to drive to the port.As we arrived the last of the big ships were leaving port to wait out the cyclone at sea.

We then went to see the Eco-Abrolhos.Looked good.

We then went to the tourist information to see what information they had on the cyclone -actually less than we had.but the building's Foundation Stone was laid by a familiar name - a former Premier and minister for mines.

In fact his name was on several buildings around Geraldton.
We also visited one of the town's jewellers who also have a Pearl Farm on the Abrolhos to see what their pearls were like. Not too bad.
Then it was time for lunch.Mrsdrron had a feeling for ribs so downmarket we went - to Hog's.So she had the ribs which were good.I had the prime rib which wasn't as good. But not expensive and the wine was reasonably priced.

We then drove around the southern coastline of Geraldton. One place was taking the cyclone seriously.

Then the Moore Point lighthouse.
