I have an opportunity to go for a week's holiday in 4 weeks to Hawaii. It's been a while since I've been to the US, so have not had deal w' entry requirements.

Is this the appropriate site: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

How long's it taking now and what's the cost?

Cheers

Yes, that is the appropriate site. It costs US$14 if approved ($4 if not approved). It takes a few minutes to fill out the application and decision is immediate.

Not sure what the rules are for dredging up old-ish threads, but in case someone stumbles on to this post in the future, it should be noted that while the decision to grant you a visa waiver is immediate, it does not guarantee you entry into the US; that decision is made by the officer at the port of entry.

Yes sure, it does allow you to get on the flight, and tells you whether if you have any doubt you shouldn't even try. Certainly a lot easier than before.
