It seems that seldom does a good word appear for this carrier so this post seeks to help redress the matter.
Following in the august footsteps of the resident aff cruise/tour writer,(Drron) we were heading for Tokyo to board the Silver Shadow for a cruise to Vancouver via the Aelutians.
Bris -vegas to Tokyo had all sorts of structural issues requiring Sydney or Cairns connections. There was an option ex OOL with Jetstar , and the price was extremely attractive at $550 each in * class.
BUT.. read all the reports tgh.. you must be crazy.. regular ff’ers would rather eat nails than risk this kind of torture.. (or so the spin seemed to go ).
A transfer was booked through BCT . It arrived on time and was a nice clean quiet private transfer that made the coming torture more bearable.
The Qantas club offered a fairly limited selection, and it seemed we were on our way down the slippery slope.
This perception accelerated slightly as we walked out into the hot sun and up a thousand steps to our fate in the shiny silver chamber.
Here dear reader ,reality hit ,.. hard.
A drink sir.. well of course.. another sir .. well if you insist…
(Here the lyrical language endeth)....
It was an entirely civilized experience, really strong service, and adequate if not particularly attractive food and wine.
Better than the QF Y+ product? Nope.. but it didn’t cost y+ price either.
For the price it was a really great way to get to our destination and I would not hesitate to use the carrier again.
