Not to rain on your parade but the Sofitel in Queenstown, while being in the centre of town, doesn’t have great views due to other buildings in front of it (it was built last, at the back) and had the Hilton been ready by next year (and I’m not sure it will be), it’s based near the airport well out of town, not an ideal position at all. :(

Yeah ... I know. Due to location I was happy with Sofitel. Just unhappy that they choose to treat their customers so poorly. Crazy thing is - is that if they had showed some restraint and not tried to sign me up to their A-Club program till after my stay I would have been none-the-wiser that they had fleeced me on my original booking.

I tell you, the hotels in APAC are pushing A|Club membership something cruel.

One hotel, the Grand Ambassador Seoul (a Pullman assoc. property), marketed it to me no less than four times during a four day stay. Twice on check-in, and they could see right there on the property management screen they were looking at I was already a member.

My mum and I experienced similar in a Rydges property in Port Douglas last year. They were very keen to get us to sign up, even though they knew we couldn’t credit our stay as it was booked through HotelClub, they then touted things like discounts on dining, but neglected to mention I needed the temporary cardboard slip with me at their restaurant, and on and on…
