Noticed a 747 in Sydney being stripped of its logos. It looks as though it was the socceroo logo but wondering if it is VH-OJB? The roo is also gone on the tail. ANyone know which plane this is?

Not too sure which plane this is as yet, but it is planned to go to VCV on tuesday arvo.

OJS was the socceroos plane. I am sure Markis or someone will have some more knowledge.

If it is OJB wasn't that the original Wunala?

Yep, not OJS. Went past it in the bay this morning painted normally.

Saw the Socceroos stripped one with red tail being towed but could not see the rego.

The YSSY message board is now reporting that VH-OJB is also "out as of a few days ago'
Cheers

VH-OJO will depart SYD 17/04 @ 1410 operating as QF6021 SYD-VCV....

As far as I know, QF6021 is the flight number they give to aircraft on ferry flights for maintenance, or in this case, being put out to pasture at victorville. Kinda sad.

Any 6000 number is used for a variety of purposes, be it charter, positioning or retirement flights.

Perhaps it will get Olympic games colours. That was my first thought Friday when I could see soccer wc coming off

OJB flew SYD LAX yesterday as her last revenue service before going to Victorville.

Where is the rotation back coming from, if OJB goes offline, or has a flight been cancelled/combined

Interesting they would do that. Normally the last revenue flight is to somewhere in Australia, where they then strip out anything useful, paint over the tail and then send it on its way. So this implies there is nothing of value/use inside, or they plan to strip her out at Victorville. Perhaps there is a better marker for used cabin fittings/equipment in the USA than in Aus? Or they value of anything retrievable is less than the cost of operating a long-haul ferry? Perhaps she has been sold "as-is" for someone else to use?

There was no QF12 scheduled LAX-SYD for Apr 25, so I'd say that's how they are dealing with the missing plane!

So out of curiousity, how many 747's did Qantas have at the beginning of 2012 and how many will they have on the 1st of July (new FY). I had heard rumours that they were scrapping some before the Olympics which sounded near-sighted.
