I have a flight booked to DPS over the new year break and am presented with the below seatmap.

On a 737 I would usually select exit row as I appreciate the legroom (I'm 6'2") but am wondering if row 6 mightn't be better? EF is showing Row 4 as occupied unfortunately, so no hope of that opening up.

Are the B/E seats likely to stay blocked or will we end up with a seatmate?

Not sure what's going on with the middle seats on rows 4-7, but Expert Flyer shows them as missing as well... I've never seen this before. Presumably they will remain empty.

Having said that, I'd still probably stick with the exit row for the leg room if row 4 is unavailable.

Just be warned that row 13 will have a reduced recline due to the second exit row behind it.

Maybe they've reduced total pax loading for weight issues (long way on a 738).

I'd stick with Exit for certainty of legroom.

Row 13 has same recline, it is just locked upright for takeoff and landing (as is row 12).

Rows 4-7 will stay that way. Think it's due to the range, block a few seats off and make it a benefit to those who can select it.

Yes I know, but it usually hinges on someone actually unlocking it.

so if the cabin crew do forget to unlock them, there's nothing stopping you from asking one of them to unlock them...as cabin crew are flawed human beings...just like you/me etc are flawed human beings..or is that not an option for you to talk to the cabin crew??:rolleyes::confused:.

sorry for not staying on the OP topic

I've sat in 13 and 14 a lot of times. I've never seen it fail to be unlocked (or locked again for landing).

TheInsider's comments would sway me to take the elbow room (and only "2 abreast" and take a forward row) as you can "manspread" and cope with the lesser leg room.

I think if there is reasonable confidence they'll stay blocked that I'll take the forward rows.

You never know when you're going to land next to a big fella where shoulder hockey negates the comfort of the additional legroom. Happy to sit sideways to encroach on the middle seats legroom.

I've never had the exit row unlocked for me. And not everyone is aware that it can be locked/unlocked; if you dont know, you cant ask! I certainly didnt until not long ago. Just providing some FYI info to the OP, no need to shoot me down.

I was replying to your post which was quite specific to you. My post still stands...if you or others find their seat wont recline, talk to the cabin crew.

I'm off now ... cheers

Wasn't a shoot down, was just describing a (my) different experience (for the OP's benefit to help answer their question).

So if you don't know that they can be unlocked .. what's the situation then? And if in doubt, its pretty embarrassing asking for something and being refused.

Like RooFlyer already said...if you dont know that it can be unlocked, how on earth do you know to ask? I assumed, and I guess many would do the same (because not everyone is on AFF), that it doesnt recline for an obvious reason, with no indication that this can be changed ie unlocked. I'm not sure how my post was "specific to me".

The only time I have seen missing seats like this in both the QF seatmap and ExpertFlyer is when the flight is operated as a codeshare and some seats have been assigned to the other airline.
This applies for example to my upcoming flights SYD-NOU and NOU-BNE. The first is operated by QF as a codeshare with SB. The second operated by SB as a codeshare with QF.
For both flights only certain seats are displayed in the seatmaps, with the other seats just "missing".
This is for the QF side. I can't look at the SB side to confirm they display the missing seats because Air Calin doesn't make seat maps available online.
Is this flight code shared with another airline? It doesn't appear to be on ExpertFlyer.

By the way all of Row 5 shows as available to me using WP credentials in ExpertFlyer. Still missing B&E though.

Don't think there's a code share. And if there is, poor code share partner only getting handed the middle seats in the first four rows. I think the load-limiting explanation is most likely.

Agree with this!

E/F shows row 4 as taken:

Like when I asked for a Tomato juice and the FA laughed and said no- I thought she was joking. She said there was a new rule they weren't allowed to bring anything from business back to economy, even a juice.. I chalked it up to being down the back and her assuming WP would be seated there. It was quite awkward actually.

I should have asked if it was a new rule as of that same weekend...

Well I guess the OP, and everyone reading this thread, well and truly know that the seat recline can be unlocked.

Nothing stopping one from personally unlocking as well.
