Hi guys,

I am looking at a way to get home from Europe next month.

It looks like I will get to the middle east through CDG-DXB though the taxes are exhorbitant but from there onwards I am keen to fly EY F however the flight I want (evening flight direct to MEL) has no availability but there is availability on the 789 flight to BNE.

But this flight gets into BNE at 18:00. Last direct QF flight to MEL will be at 19:05.

Will I make it ?
I'll have to clear immigrations and customs won't I ?
Is BNE usually busy at this time of day ?

Obviously all on the same ticket.

Suggestions ?

As a reference, Qantas' minimum allowable connection time is 90 mins, so I reckon it won't be enough.

You will have to clear customs, checkin at the transfer desk and catch the bus between terminals. Easy enough to do but it'll Probably take 45-60 mins. However if they ticket it as one, then you should be ok for reschedule if you miss the connection.

IMO you would have little chance of making your connection. There are 6 - 7 flights arriving around 1700-1745 so clearing immigration/customs will be slow.

I would not attempt that connection time if I was the pax concerned, mainly because of the bus transfer between the terminals.

What airline are you planning to ticket through? You probably won't find one that will ticket with a connection of less than 90 minutes for BNE.

Edit: If ticketing though AA, it's 90 minutes MCT for BNE.

Have you tried doing any dummy bookings?

I tried for an 85 minute connection for a AUH-BNE-SYD. No go. MCT = 90 minutes.

Edit: Through AA call centre, and it was through BNE connection

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Customs and immigration at that time of day I'd allow ~30mins. +5mins walk to TBus, +~15min wait for TBus, + ~10min transit, +5min walk at domestic, +~5min security, +5min to the gate = 75mins. Even if it can be booked (which I doubt) you're leaving only 10mins for inbound delay etc. Far too tight for my liking.

You won't be able to book the flights AUH EY x/BNE QF MEL on the same ticket unless the standard 90 minute connection is met.

Even if you booked AUH/BNE on EY in one pnr and QF in another pnr you would need to clear customs with your bag and take it with you on the Tbus or get Uber to the domestic terminal and do the bag drop before the 30 minute close off at 1835. I can't see it happening quite frankly.

You can only drop off your bag at the domestic transfer desk within the international terminal if you have minimum one hour before the departure of your BNE/MEL flight.

What time is the latest BNE/MEL flight on VA? I know there is some kind of agreement with EY & VA but I don't think you can book VA flights BNE/MEL using AA miles.
