5th Night free question

Hi,

I can't see an answer to this elsewhere - apologies if it has been answered before.

I'm currently a diamond member. I recall there being a 5th night free offer for points redemptions much like SPG and Marriott offer. I'm currently making my second redemption (last long stay was 7 nights Conrad Maldives & I received 5th night free - though it was for the base room which was good enough for us) at a Hilton in Hawaii and booking a non-base room as I wnt water views and staying with my family of 4.

I've been advised the 5 night free only applies to base rooms not for "premium room rewards".

Has this always been the case and wasn't an issue last time as I'd booked the "lowest" room or has this been one of the recent changes to Honors I may have missed?

As far as I am aware the 5th night free was always on standard room awards only.

It might be worth booking a standard award room then contact the property about paying cash for a confirmed upgrade in advance.

We did this for the WA Edinburgh over NYE 2016 to ensure we had a castle view.
