500k QF points, need to get to London on J or higher, confused

You may find that availability on EK out of ADL or PER is better than out of MEL or SYD.

For years got fed up trying find QF award seats and then being whacked big dollars if found Internationally, so get to HKG anyway you can in upgrade economy, its daylight flight stop then choose as many seats as you want and bugger all fees if CX.

We are going HKG/JFK/HKG 2 x JrCX return under 400K points and a mere $192 in fees. If we found SYD/LAXJFK 2xJ QF fees for 2 pax about $2000.

That’s a good point. I used to work in HKG from Melbourne (FIFO) so am very familiar and have friend there, could be worth a short stop over too and the fee difference is significant indeed.

Yes a big difference like 2 grand + fees out of OZ for or two pax, have friends who live in HK too but once together we drink too much!, Will see them 4 times before xmas this year.

Persistence and patience and contantly checking. Definitely look at the Asian hubs. We have a paid Y fare to HKG in September and then points with EK to CDG/FCO/DXB/BNE in a mix of J and F. I found HKG had more options for reward redemptions. Also by starting your journey from Hong Kong the fees/taxes/surcharges were way cheaper. We saved close on on $2k by starting in HKG instead of BNE. Do some dummy bookings from different starting points to compare costs. I was speaking to an English couple yesterday and they got a really good deal to BNE with Garuda in business via CGK.

I been trying to do this for this July like in the next two-three weeks and availability is enormous doing it this way.

Lots of QF FLIGHTS to HK (J 72000 with QF OR J 65000 with CX ? Well it is from Adelaide. Fees are like $220-230) and

then as above book a second ticket from Hong Kong to Europe (eg Brussels J 92000 with CX and J 84000 with EK) and you can open jaws tickets and leave from a second city (eg Madrid or Vienna) and get back to Australia and also could fly J one way and F return. Fees on that HK-Europe-Australia vary but were as low as $180...

Remember, zones are used to calculate distance so If you’re a few points short Rome or Vienna to Perth are lower points spend J 96000 see below. Recall Australia London return J is 256000 Points person and F 384000 per person. Note Perth - Rome F return is 288000 Points per person (Fees around $1250 per person).....as others said dummy bookings are good and date flexibility and you don’t need purchase a return ticket....
