Hi all

I am thinking of staying at the Sofitel, but some of the comments on www.tripadvisor.com are very negative.

What do people think about this hotel?

Or is Hilton/Marriott/Stamford a better choice?

Thanks.

kyle,

I can only comment on the Hilton and the Conrad. It depends upon what you want. The Hilton is a pretty stock standard Hilton (not bad but not brilliant) and the Conrad is really great if you are after the old world charm.

Thanks straitman.

I did consider the Conrad Treasury, but it's lacking a swimming pool I believe.

Re the Hilton, I think only the executive rooms have been renovated?

Love the Stamford, it's been a few years since we last stayed there. Great river views from all rooms.

I haven't seen the renovated rooms, but I would be loathe to rank Hilton and/or Conrad Treasury as 5* hotels. I don't care what the ratings are officially, they don't seem to have that shine about them.

The Stamford might be your best bet. Marriott doesn't look too bad.

Sorry BNE can't offer you a better 5* hotel than what we have.

I don't believe the Hilton has an official rating. They pulled out after a dummy spit a few years back when they were downgraded in the official rankings.

Emporium Hotel in Ann street would be my choice (of course, not helpful if you want to be in middle of cbd, but it a 10-15min walk or 5 min cab to cbd).

I've stayed at the Sofitel in Brisbane quite a few times, and enjoyed my stay every time. You get the typical Sofitel rooms (with the really soft beds and pillows that I quite enjoy), and the club level on the 30th floor has some great views out across Brisbane when you head up there for breakfast or evening drinks.

The restaurant downstairs is much better post-renovations - the previous buffet style wasn't all that good but that's going back several years before they redid the foyer area.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
