Back in the day when i was a newbie bronze and unschooled in the ways of FF, that was all I wanted - Silver so that I could beat the queues ex-SYD during Christmas...
How things have changed... lol...

No you don't. Silver only gets you check-in at Qantas Club/Premium Economy counters for Qantas international flights.

qantas may like to limit the benefit in Australia, but premium economy is good enough to skip the queues I guess. at an out station silver = ruby = business class check-in as far as I'm concerned. I would line up at the shortest of the business/premium economy/qantas club counters if I was overseas.

for oneworld airlines silver gets business class.
