2024 QF Inflight safety video

Looking at the news article posted earlier, it does say the below explicitly.

All of the destinations featured were accessible to Qantas passengers through the airline itself, or its oneworld partners such as Finnair, American Airlines and Royal Air Maroc.
 
Of the international locations:

Milford Sound, NZ (QF ZQN)
Los Angels USA (QF LAX)
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (codeshare AA/AS SJD via QF LAX)
Jaipur, India (codeshare 6E JAI via QF DEL )
Lapland, Finland (codeshare AY HEL; separate tickets required to AY RVN)
Seoul, South Korea (QF ICN)
Marrakesh, Morocco (not bookable with QF, fly to RAK via another oneworld carrier)
Rome, Italy (QF FCO, seasonal, else EK/BA)
Paris, France (QF CDG, announced)

So most are legit, Lapland and Marrakesh are the hardest to justify (though bookable with points or via a TA)

Except, I guess, the very first one – Litchfield National Park. and that explains why Litchfield National Park is labelled Darwin, which is a hundred kilometres away.

And why Coles Bay is called Freycinet and labeled 'Tasmania'.

In fairness to them when I lived in Darwin we would drive there for a morning swim and be back home for lunch. Pretty close in NT terms (high speed limit helps, and there was none when I first did it)

Then again they used Milford Sound for NZ and not Queenstown.

Only difference I can think of is that the woman was from Darwin so she wasn’t there as a tourist like most of the other people in the video.
 
Flew this morning and the new video wasn’t updated yet. Guess it will take some time to roll it out to the fleet.
We flew from SYD-PER in J yesterday and it was a bunfight. The drop down screens were activated and then started flapping around as though they were washing on the line. In the end, only two screens worked, so we read the safety card in the pocket.

Well Darwin is the closest major airport. A bit like how you'd fly to Sydney Airport to visit the Blue Mountains. I certainly flew in to Darwin when I visited Litchfield, Kakadu, Nitmiluk.

Litchfield would be more correct, though Darwin is probably more recognisable.

Yeah but my point was you can't book it revenue with QF.

All the others (except Lapland, which I also mentioned), can be booked with QF as revenue tickets using the QF site.

Pretty sure thats a million miles away from any "special place" anyone would hanker to be in..!

I had some relatives visit years ago who sent me a photo (back in the days when holidays involve sending photos to be processed) captioned "3 sisters, Blue Mountains, Sydney"

It's not the first time airlines try to associate an out of town place with the town. Avalon Melbourne is one. Then EasyJet thinks that arriving at an airport near to the destination as the same as completing the journey.

Just bring their call centers back to become call centres, and I would be most satisfied.
Spending so much money to change what is it, 5 mins of every flight.
Not to mention having to pay the wages of the staff who will appear in the announcements, also having to provide refreshments for the family of staff/frequent flyers "picked" to be in the new announcements.

production costs of this are peanuts compared to ongoing costs like Call Centres whole other magnitude of cost.
 
Flew SYD-BNE this afternoon. I always try and watch the safety video. No problem with the 2 JAL flights this month and even watched all of the BA video but it takes a bit of effort.
Today I started watching but it was putting me to sleep so I went back to doing my Suduku. Much more enjoyable.
Fails as a safety video IMHO.
 
Lovely woke video. I'm surprised they didn't have Alan from Dublin or one of the Cape Town call centre staff who hang up on you featured in the video.

Looking forward to Dubbo to Cabo and Kalgoorlie to Lapland directs coming with Project Sunrise!
 
Yes too long - but the final version will obviously shorter so lets see

Beautiful cinematography - but the safety message is a bit lost - lets see the edited verion to see if improved

Addresses the common complaint on multiple threads that QF doesn’t care about frequent flyers - there 7 in the ad plus a highly recognisable staff member from the F lounge.

Staff are presented as real people with warm images just like us . and deserve to be treated with some respect

Nice balance showing a female pilot and all staff have real families outside work.

From the marketing perspective lot of aspirational destinations available through the OW alliance and CR (many I have visited on points and a couple I want to visit)

My main concern is the watering down of the processes to be followed in an emergency and the imagery easiest to recall /memory trigger is destinations you want to visit one day.

Hopefully the final edits will refocus the mind on the safety aspects, but it will be hard with this material as a starting point.

Legally there is no requirement to view the video (many aircraft don't even have screens) - so the video soundtrack or a script read by a FA, together with FAs demonstrating is sufficient. You're welcome to but shouldn't need to read the safety card.

Even with the video playing, crew on Australian airlines will always demonstrate the key components so if you're not watching the screen but still watching them, you've got the information you need.
