$200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

Dined at Chin Chin almost a month ago. Charge came up in my account as Chin Chin Online and no credit. Amex have told me that the merchant isn't eligible. I'm into my second round of escalation with them over this :rolleyes:
In my experience, getting this sort of thing resolved directly with AMEX is not worth the effort. I would raise a complaint with AFCA - you'll end up with the $200, and likely some points for the inconvenience.
 
Dined at Bistro Molines and the charge came up as Rob N Sal (as in Robert and
Sally, the owners) and of course no credit came through. Not looking forward to the painful process of following up with Amex.

How long ago was the charge? I think quite a few credits are much slower these days.
 
I was in Japan 2 weeks ago and planned to use my credit whilst there. Checked the Amex site to find a restaurant and it said that the offer was temporarily suspended in Japan, checked a few days after I got back to Aus and it was active again. Infuriating as I probably won’t be overseas again until next year, so bye bye credit.
 
We recently sought to use our credit at Wilma, one of three Canberra restaurants included in the $200 offer. On checking the statement a couple of days later, the meal charge was from 'Kokomo's' rather than Wilma. (Kokomo's was the name of the restaurant at that site before Wilma). We didn't get any email confirmation of spend and I was dreading having to go through the process of trying to get it all sorted. Much to my relief, the $200 has just been credited without needing any intervention from me, 6 days after the meal.

I wonder if they'd be willing to extend the overseas dining credit for a few more months since it expires this December?
 
Has anyone successfully called a restaurant overseas and purchased a gift card? I am not able to travel this year and in the spirit of the offer I know it's wrong but I would love to double up my value for when I am travelling next year

For restaurants in Japan the only way to pay is with Pocket Concierge, but they bill you at the time of booking so you can utilise a 2022 credit for a booking in 2023. I have shared my experience with PC up thread but happy to answer any questions.

I don't really even think this is an abuse of the Amex Offer system.

I've queried a credit not received and been told I am ineligible as it was paid via Apple Pay on phone (they've said it's a 3rd party and ineligible). I don't see how this can be the case. I've used for a dining credit in Aust via Apple Pay and not an issue, don't want to highlight that incase the reverse the credits......
Anyone else had the same experience using Apple Pay?

I would have thought that would always be the case, as the CC number used via Apple/Samsung/Google pay does not match the card number that is registered for the offer.

This confusion comes up now and then. Both Apple Pay and Google Pay offer two services. The one we're all familiar with where a card is emulated on our phones for tap payments, and the other service is like PayPal. Most commonly you see the latter when you're ordering at restaurants/bars online, the payment page will have an Apple/Google Pay button you can press instead of typing in your card. It's also common in transport apps (Uber/Ola) and food ordering apps (Hey You/Ritual).

The issue arises because both Apple and Google call both services the same thing and one service (the PayPal like one) is excluded and the other is not. But if you use the tap service (which is not excluded) it'll have a Apple/Google Pay tag in the system. I've found usually just calling back and trying again to get a different agent sorts this out. These days I'll just make sure to use the physical card directly if I'm getting a statement credit, to avoid the issue entirely.
