Hi All,

In a couple of weeks i'll be flying MEL-SYD arriving at 7:30am then from SYD-HKG dep @10am.
It will be my first visit to the SYD First lounge which I am eagerly awaiting! I will have approx 2 hours in the lounge.

Question is, what do you all recommend for a morning visit to the First Lounge?
What are the breakfast favourites? What is Spa availability normally like in the mornings for a massage?

Given that I will have checked in at MEL DOM checkin, do they normally give security/immi express passes or do I have to goto SYD QF Intl first checkin?

Note- I don't like Eggs Benedict ;)

For breakfast I tend for a glass of Bolly. I don't drink red wine until at LEAST 10:30AM.

My stomach only excepts 3 things in the mornings, Coffee, Juice or water :D Can't seem to stomach anything else until lunchtime! :)

It's *always* after 10:30am *somewhere* in the world (and in this case, NZ, which is a nice easy comparison :p).

You will be lucky to get an hour in I suspect, if things go smoothly you should be at customs at 8, and in the lounge at 8.15, boarding for QF127 starts at 9.15 for a 9.50 departure.

In Melbourne you check in at the "Domestic Connection to International" desk. Thye hould have the passes there,

If not, try the J lounge at MEl T1, then failing that at the G15 transfer counter at SYD T3.

It will probably be 8am by the time you get to the SYD F/L - the flight will commence boarding around 9:10am.

You can something as simple as smoked salmon on sourdough toast if you like.

Yes, for the passes....straight from bus to passport queue.

As markis10 has hinted - don't do any window shopping on the way.

Noted ;)

The only reason I am flying via SYD rather than directly from MEL-HKG is to solely for the SYD F lounge (and maybe the A380 too), so I will be high-tailing to SYD Intl to maximise F lounge time.

Apart from the eggs benedict (which is my favourite) they do have the usual breakfast type fare as well. The energiser drink (smoothie) is worth having along with whatever you order.

Make sure you fill out your outgoing immigration card before you get to the immigration area, and use the Express Path lane (which is on your left before the main entrance to the immigration hall.)

I was on QF127 with a 09:50 departure on April 8th and the immigration and security lines were the longest I've ever seen them in Sydney. Security lines were backed up all the way to the immigration counters and it took over 30 minutes to get through.

Thankfully QF127 had delayed departure by 30 mins, so I still managed to get some time in the F Lounge.

Personally I find that notion quite disgusting.

The more appropriate breakfast beverage in the F Lounge is the Veuve. :)

The staff don't even bat an eyelet when asked to open a bottle at 5:30am before an early flight to NZ.

I can't drink the Veuve in the lounge since they took away the Veuve Devaux as it feels like I am cheating on them (happy with the Veuve at home). Obviously I don't drink the tattinger ;)

Is tattinger the home brand, aka taittinger wannabe??

MEL F lounge not nice enough? ;)

A shame, because the connections will significantly eat into the time you'd have to enjoy it, and spa reservations are hard enough to come by as it is there due to the greater number of F and CL pax booking them up the day before. That said, it's all still possible, and pretty nice - hope your luck is good on the day! :)

Agree with djfuzz re the MEL lounge (smaller, more intimate, and usually quieter) but SYD is fine too.

I also am not overly keen on eggs benedict, and usually go for poached eggs (with accompaniments as well) along with a glass or two of Taittinger.

Enjoy the experience. :)

PS. Am not a spa person, but all you can do is ask.

Can you take an earlier flight up or is that the first option???

And a few bourbon and cokes would be my preference whenever i get to try the Flounge one day...

I'd go up the night before just to avoid any risk of missing out!

Connecting where possible is logistical, particularly if you luggage to check.

With luggage, one can not be guaranteed check-in until 3 hours before the flight, reducing effective lounge time to maybe 2 hours.

By connecting, the lounge time can be greatly increased. For example, take a mid morning flight MEL-SYD for QF1 or SYD-MEL for QF9.

Of course, this is moot if HLO as you can OLCI the day before and front up at your leisure.

Given that the OP's flight from SYD is at 10am connection options are limited. The earliest flight of the day from MEL is 6am which I believe the OP is on already. Given a 7:30am scheduled arrival, smooth transfer to T1 and no hold-ups at security potentially could be in the lounge by 8am meaning < 2 hours lounge time but it wouldn't take much going wrong to throw it out. Alternatively, going up the night before would allow a casual check-in at 7am at the latest even with luggage :)

When an A380 Vs A330 is available, 380 wins every time, well most of time! I still like the A330's don't get me wrong, especially when in Y due to the 2-4-2 seating, but now with A380 upper deck "Emerald city" Y seats its hard to resist.
Having no PE in the A330 is a drawback as well.
