Hi,

I am a KF member (most of the time when travelling OS, I fly with Sing Air). However, not many credit cards in Australia offer a good redemption for KF miles.

I wonder if I should join another Loyalty Program (Velocity with Virgin). I personally dislike Qantas.

Do you normally join several Frequent Flyer Loyalty Programs or just One ?
Pros and Cons ?

Thanks

We should now expect that Singapore, Virgin Australia, V Australia and Air NZ will have an alliance and three Governments have to ok these proposals.
Multiple loyalty programs are fine as long as you don't get caught with too few points in each to go anywhere or you have credit cards that cost too much for the points you earn.
Both One World and Star Alliance work well for Australian based travellers.

Amex gets you 1.5 KF pts / $1 spent - CitiGold Business gets you .833 KF pts / $1 spent - Citi Select gets you 1.33 KF pts / $1 spent - pretty good earn IMHO especially if you can secure J savers.

Last count I am a member of QF, SQ, CX, VA, PR, MU, UA, DL - I think that's all - membership of all justified at some point in time.

As replied by another poster already there area number of cards that earn KF points (once transferred) at a good rate.

For me I am an active member of 3.

1/ Personally, I believe that belonging to multiple FF programs is the only way to go for those serious about maximising their point earn.

For example different promos for different FF abound, and some of these can only be directed to a particular FF program. So if you are not a member of it you forgo the points. With KF, domestic travel does not currently earn FF points, though hopefully that may change.

With flights, sometimes your preferred airline is not the cheapest, or connections/flight times etc may make it inconvenient to use.

My grocery shopping for many months has earnt me on average 6.5 MR points (which I move to KF at 1;1) and 2 QFF points for every dollar spent. As I use my points for J/ tickets that is say a discount of 28-50 cents per $.

2/ On redemption different awards can be more attractive depending on dstination, rooute etc...and various discounts that apply from time to time.

3/ Availability. Multiple programs increases your options.

I really do not see a problem with being a member of several loyalty programs as long as you know the intricate details of each of those FF programs and do not let miles/points expire.

I don't fly often or far enough to be a member of more than one , having said that I have VA, EK, and marco polo. But concentrate everything at present on QF , I live in Oz and while Qantas remains ( not sure for how long) an Australian airline , will continue to support them , heck I even fly death star

The more I see of men........... the more I love my dog
