Got an offer of 40,000 points to keep the card, however nothing if i wanted to upgrade to platinum . So ended up cancelling the card.

Just locked in a return trip Syd -> Melb (return leg business) for 70 status credit (2x promo = 140) - will bump me to Gold. Pretty good value vs. Qantas option

Thanks. Also working out if jump between offers/cards for a while. My biggest issue is the earn rate is a lot lower with other cards or capped. So opportunity cost of lower earn rate for 18 months.

Thought i'd give it a last ditch effort, spoke to the cancellation teams and asked them flat out for a retention offer or I would cancel the card. They advised that due to a change in Govt. regulation they are not allowed to provide retention offers anymore.

Thanks - so can change the earning system but not historically accumulated points. Have 400k+ altitude points with no clear way to use them.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Are you saying you can switch your altitude rewards points into Qantas points under this method?

Does anyone know if you can apply without an income? I.e. I already have an amex which I will probably cancel if I can't get an upgrade offer, however one strategy may be to have my wife apply (not currently working) and I go as a supplementary cardholder. She's already a supplementary holder...

I called up to try and get a retention offer by asking about cancelling the card both through the call centre and online they just offered to cancel the card for me on the spot. (Qantas Ultimate card - $150k per year I put on it)

Crazy how they are always encouraging you to book direct for the best rate but then wont price match other resellers of their rooms.

Yeah was treating that as a freebie as i wouldn't pay for a loyalty scheme. But they are the added perks i'd get.
