Velocity members can now only access Etihad J/F reward seats 30 days out

Disappointing update. Have benefited from two return J trips to Europe using Velocity points on Etihad in the past, having planned well in advance. Much more of a last minute gamble now.

Reading between the lines of the corporate statement, it looks like simply as stated.

    ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

If you look back in this thread, it's a bit of a known partner airline quirk that ANA are releasing availability very close to departure for VA, but not much else in advance

Booking Velocity Reward Seats for Xmas Period

Yes, it's a $60 or 7500 point cancellation fee. You get to choose. I pay the cash fee. You get all the points back using that option.

Booking Velocity Reward Seats for Xmas Period

I can't edit my post to be crystal clear, but agreed with this re: point #2 (I meant, no, it wouldn't be a problem - as confirmed by your call).

Booking Velocity Reward Seats for Xmas Period

Welcome to AFF @flyerzz Christmas / New Year is obviously a popular time. I recommend if you see a reward seat, book it, can always cancel later (for a $60 fee). There's not necessarily a blackout period, but SQ releases its rewards seats to its own members first (at 355 days). For VA, reward...

Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

VA community survey just received and completed about on board food and beverage. Primarily Y focused, but I highlighted preordering would be win / win for both customer and airline in both Y and J. Seems they are testing interest in hot meals in Y on longer flights.

Abu Dhabi Terminal A - lounges

I never got to see the old F lounge so will be interested in your thoughts, as the new one was pretty amazing for me (quiet, private, comfy, a la carte).

Which business seats does Etihad use from SYD/MEL?

There are no private rooms, but open / partly private comfy chair "pods" in the new F lounge. Comfy but certainly not super private or dark. Having done the 351 last week, and the 380 prior to Xmas, I can now say that while the 777 seats are tired overall and certainly not a premium seat in the...

What is up with Etihad's Australian operations?

Flew Etihad J MEL-AUH on the 777 and AUH-LHR on the 380 last weekend. Velocity WP status recognised throughout at key points including at F Lounge in new Terminal A, and when asking for real champagne in the MEL House Lounge and receiving the a la carte menu. As discussed in this thread, the...

AUH Midfield Terminal and EY Lounge plans?

Visited the new F lounge last weekend while transiting between MEL and LHR. Outstanding lounge. May have been the time of day - 0500-0700 - but there were only about 6 of us in the space. Shower suite much appreciated, as was the a la carte dining menu. Amusing when the attendant asked me how...

Spend your Velocity points on everyday purchases?

The one thing I think of is that there are reportedly over 11 million Velocity members. Not every one of them (in fact the majority) would be hoarding hundreds of thousands of points - i.e. not everyone is an AFF'er! Some of these members may be interested in such an offer, particularly as the...

General VA Lounge Discussion (2021 onwards)

Speaking of this (partner-ish) lounge. I'm seeing conflicting reports. Is The House by Aspire in Melb back to serving a la carte? Or is still only buffet?

I responded and said basically the same - highlighting that business class and flight redemptions were my focus.

    Etihad cabin baggage in Y

I can't share a direct experience from exactly your case, however, yes, the Etihad rules would apply. BUT have you seen what people are getting away with in cabin baggage these days? I'm sure if you try and streamline your tech bags you'll be fine.

No, the pitch/width is staying the same. The seat back is more slimline - allows an extra row I believe.

The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Etihad is good on the ground with VA benefits in my experience. Guest limits for lounges are adhered to, but ask nicely and you never know your luck. Enjoy your trip - you'll be going through the new Terminal A.
