Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Even COVID-19 doesn't want to go to Adelaide.

    Digital tracking of quarantined people

My argument is simply that more eyes makes for better security and if code is promoted as being secure it should be able to pass open scrutiny without fear. The commercial decisions and contractual obligations which prevent most companies from open sourcing code is not a security decision. Of...

    Digital tracking of quarantined people

I haven't misunderstood anything. When systems are exposed to hostile environments then having many eyes review code and many actors attempt compromises has resulted in much better security. How many more patch cycles for full remote compromise zero day exploits that have been in code for years...

    Digital tracking of quarantined people

In this day and age if you can't open source your security then you don't have any security. Security through obscurity doesn't work. In this case open sourcing contact tracing code makes lots of sense as it'd likely be the most scrutinised code ever released.

Rubbish article: Health Authorities Apparently Lied About Wearing Masks. [Incorrect]

No it wasn't and no it isn't and no it never has been. If the current episode breaks the seemingly "Anglo" aversion to wearing masks so much the better*. Maybe if Australians with respiratory infections habitually wore masks rather than going out bare faced whilst coughing up half a lung we...

Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

@drron I couldn't agree more. Why we aren't rolling out temperature checks at shopping malls, buildings, etc like Singapore is beyond belief. At the very least it would reinforce the fact that we are not in normal times and for the next few weeks or months self isolation and social distancing...

COVID-19 in Japan and Japanese waters

And did they follow proper hygiene when removing and disposing the mask? Cross contamination is so simple with these things. And this one seems to be quiet contagious. If the Australian government was serious about containment they'd at least be taking nasal swabs for testing from all those...

I used to be with Forg on this one, but after I got my Gulfstream it hasn't been an issue.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

By my primary school math - if 5%* of infected people require 3 days of ICU and mechanical ventilation to survive and a large segment of the population gets infected it'll result in a huge shortfall of ICU beds and mechanical ventilators which won't help the mortality rate at all. *from the...

Cathay Closing Pier First and two other HKG Lounges "Temporarily"

Yeah the whole CX thing is terrible. I only recently worked out that SIN-LHR via HK is a much more pleasant option for me than the SQ SIN-LHR direct. The fares are much cheaper, the timings work better, AA lounge on arrival, nice CX Pier lounge in HK for a shower, individual legs are shorter - I...

    Covid-19 - status pause

How many SCs did the people on the QF Wuhan-CI flight earn? (Obviously I'm taking the piss).

COVID-19 in Japan and Japanese waters

That age breakdown may well be more indicative of the ages of the people who tend to take cruises rather than the age of people susceptible to this virus.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

In Singapore I've noticed some people wash their hands before they enter the toilet, do their business and then just walk out. Also many people are still coughing, gargling and spitting in the bathrooms - it always was disgusting but now it's likely a health hazard.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

I flew NRT-SIN during SARS and the loading was even lighter than that - there were more FAs than passengers. Only downside was security had nothing to do so they gave me and my belongings a very thorough and protracted search.
